How long is your commute?
 

im curious. Currently im away at school and i work at a bike shop now and will be throughout this summer. but as of right now my commute is about 23 miles one way and i would really like to be commuting to and fro through the summer pending how the daylight situations work out as most of the roads i would be using are 55mph relatively country roads.
sorry if this has been a monotonous post but im just curious if im being a p***y even being curious about this commute and not just sucking it up and doing it:D

My commute is 25 miles each way from Norton to Peninsula and back, on mostly narrow ruralish roads with no shoulder and drivers doing 45-60. But I am also a p**y in the winter when the weather is bad, driving part way and only riding the final 7-10. You ain't got nothing to prove to anyone, do what you feel comfortable with and keep it fun! ;)

Honestly, if you're not used to it then you'll take a while to adjust, but if you're already logging big miles via recreational riding then you'll get comfy with it quick.

33 miles each way, about 2000 feet of climbing each way. But these days I work from home as much as possible. So I am only going into the office maybe 1-2 days a week.

My daily round trip from March through October averages about 30 miles, 5 days a week. November to February I shorten the trip home by 5 miles to cut down my riding time in darkness, so those are 25 mile round trips. I rarely miss a day of bike commuting, so far this year I have done 43 days out of 45 work days. I am age 53, and know what my body tolerates and when it needs a rest. Occasionally I can take a shorter route to or from work if I am not feeling up to the regular route, but the shorter route is not a very pleasant ride. My commute routes have a fair amount of hill climbing, probably over 1000' vertical each way. I have bike lanes along most routes, which are though suburban Orange County megalopolis in Southern California. My typical round trip of 30 miles takes about one hour each way.

15 miles each way with some rolling hills so it's a fairly easy commute.

I've got 8.5-10mi. each way depending on the route I take. Mostly 2-lane country roads (50mph limit) with no shoulder except for the 3/4 mile or so that I ride on the tollway (6-8 ft. shoulder). A couple decent climbs on the way to work make for fun descents in the afternoon!

I ride it three days a week in summer. In winter it is either a 10 each way version or a 23 each way version.

My trip is 11 miles one way. But I usually do some other biking to run errands once in town. There are a few good climbs too. I leave my front door and immediately start a 1 mile long 400 foot climb. I climb about 700 feet total on my trip.

I feel a bit inadequate after reading everyone else's posts. My commute is only 6 miles each way :o

22.5mi with 1650' of climbing r/t if I take the short way. I'm aiming for some bigger miles and more hill riding right now, so I'm doing 28-35mi r/t with 2000+ of climbing.

22 mile round trip. 20 on a mup that parallels a special bus way. I scouted it on a weekend prior to beginning commuting. Your roads and time you can allot to a commute my be the deciding factor.

Get some good tail lightage. I love my Planet Bike Superflash.

The nice thing about that distance is... at certain times of the day, under certain weather conditions, I can almost get to work faster on bike than in a car. During the winter, that is NOT the case, BUT winter commuting is very satisfying.

About 1.9 miles, or 3.8 miles round trip through heavy city traffic. There is one hill that i could avoid, but choose not too because once you go up you go down immediately, and with the traffic it is insanely fun and intense. This takes about half the time as the bus or walking.

Total ascent = 403 ft
Total Descent = 432 ft

This time of year I long for a 6 mile commute. You can always make your commute longer in the nice weather, but you can't make it shorter in the crappy weather - unless you cheat like I do and drive part way on the really snowy/icy days.

I share chip's opinion.
I would commute everyday if I had a shorter commute and would not need my van as much.

It is much easier to lengthen a commute instead of shortening it.
