Like I said I didn't think we could catch her but we did. Electric motors generally have a hell of an instant start (lot of torque). It could have been she didn't have the throttle at full because she didn't think we'd catch her.

While everyone is different, I am riding a bike to try and loose weight (and once that goal is reached, to stay fit), so I typically don't eat much more after a long ride. If I had an electric assist, which I have been thinking of, I would be using it to climb hills (many and steep where I live) while the bike is loaded with cargo (groceries, camping, moving stuff). I can hit all the hills in my area unloaded, so the electric assist would be for loaded and or times when I have bonked for the day (I don't have a car any longer). I would have a different bike for the electric assist so I could ride my regular bike without the added weight of the battery and motor.

That is my mental plan anyway ;-)

Given that it's probably a whole half horsepower, or less, I see no reason to fret over him. It may not be quite as efficient (or ecologically friendly), but it's still very efficient.

The definitions and rights of ebikes vary from country to country, and often from state to state or province to province.
Here, the 2 main criteria are 35kg weight and 35kph top assisted speed. If you qualify as an ebike, you can use it as you would a bicycle, no tax, plate or insurance and ride on the bike path if you want.

My bike has a motor too!

However, it runs on Yuengling Lager and it costs me way more than $4 a gallon to fill up! ;)

Well, he must have anticipated my "pump in the front spokes" tactic. Mr speedy was back this morning on a recumbant trike with the same power assistance, and faster than ever. Eventually I had to let him go past.

Must train harder...
