First Commute In 4 Months
Finally back on the bike for commuting. Felt great at a mild 29F.
Quick History ... Hurt my knee back in early November, kept trying to ride after varying amounts of time off and every time it hurt. Finally went for an MRI after a couple months. Diagnosis: torn meniscus, possible ACL problem, Baker's cyst. Went for a second opinion, said just meniscus flap tear. Said I could go ski on it with minimal risk of further damage. Went skiing, knee 90%+. Tried riding over the weekend and felt good. Did a very short run on Monday and that hurt the knee again. Tried commuting in this morning and it feels great. So, unless something goes to heck, no more running, ... and no stinking knee surgery needed. :) |
So how did you get panniers onto that sweet Cervelo SLC-SL? :D
I hope your knee stays better, and definitely stay away from running! |
Good to be back, isn't it? My son broke his ankle about 2 months ago and I've had to drive him to school, as a result I've only ridden twice in the last 7 weeks, once on President's day (no school) and once when they had a snow day (really cruddy ride, nearly as bad as any day driving). I've ridden all this week and I couldn't believe how far downhill I've gone. I built up to my level of fitness on the bike slowly over 3 years so I didn't think much of it. But having dropped out for 2 months, man, I feel like a real slug now.
Anyway, I figure I've done my allotment of driving for about 3 or 4 years now. |
Shider, .... funny, I commute on my new $200 WalMart Schwinn. There's no way I could do that to my Cervelo.
IJM, It sure did feel good to commute again. I've been in a good mood all day and now I have a really nice ride planned on the way home. Still building up mileage and my soft arse to handle the saddle. |
Running is the WORST activity you can do for your knees. I avoid it like the plague and in fact, I have found my knees have gotten stronger ever since i started riding
