New saddle
 

My current stock Trek Portland saddle (the one on the orange Portland) and is pretty uncomfortable and doesn't have a void in it so my prostate is probably bigger than a baseball (go Cubs!) so I think I need a new one.

I find thinner saddles to be more comfortable, I don't chafe with this one however it does hurt my tail bone, and am looking for a saddle that retails around $100 (however I will get one on eBay or craigslist).

Selle's look pretty nice, but what are good ones that aren't made to be worn with cycling shorts? I always bike in pants or shorts.

I like SDG Bel-Air saddles. The old school ones that can be found on Ebay.

Saddles are like shoes - ALWAYS try before you buy.

Take your bike into the good lbs and ask to try out saddles. Any good lbs will be willing to do this (the bad ones won't and don't deserve your service).

Try selle italia, specialized and brooks. Personally, the saddles I've tried from selle royal, fizik and sdg suck.

I have no problem riding in plain clothing with specialized alias, avatar and brooks.
Really good bike shops would allow you to try the saddle for a week or on a trainer. Just sitting on them is nothing compared to putting a few dozen miles on one.

You can't go wrong with Brooks. If you do a search, you'll find some long threads on here about them. I bought one a year ago and it has molded to by sit bones quite nicely. The breaking-in period can be a bit uncomfortable but that only lasts a couple weeks.

All are worth a shot. The Brooks may present problems if you ride the drops on a road bike causing perineum pain. I replaced mine with a Koobi and I'm happy so far. The Brooks is now happy on a hybrid with a more upright riding position. The E3 Form Saddle at Performance for 29 bucks has adherents as well.

Sit-bone pain is not a bad thing off-hand. It means you are on your sit bones. It's the "other" pain you want to avoid at all costs.

IMO, saddles with leather may form to your sit-bones better than an all synthetic one.

If you have other bike buddy's you should ask any of them if they have saddles around they don't use and start there. Some folks fall in love with saddles most folks hate. Some people hate Brooks. Some Hate Ariones. Some Hate the Toupe. Some love 1997 Stock Velo saddles that came on entry level bikes. Or circa 1984 Avocets.

If you do buy a Brooks, NEVER SELL IT! Even if you don't like it. Someday, you may change bikes and that Brooks might be the throne you need!

Not necessarily. If you have the spare cash laying around, my suggestion would actually be to buy a bunch of used saddles off ebay and live with them for a while - reselling what you don't like for little to no loss.

If you're really lucky, you have a LBS with a big loaner bin though.

Is this what you're talking about? That one is for sale for $45 but it looks different than the one for sale at PerformanceBike, I am no sure if this is an old model or what.
