Bell Ringing?

I bought a great brass bell from Velo Orange last week (https://www.velo-orange.com/jabrbe.html) and installed it this weekend. Today was my first commute with the new bell. While the sound is really good, the problem is it rings every time I hit a bump. It is the spring-loaded kind where you flip the little brass extension so it 'dings' against the side of the bell. Any thoughts on how to reduce/stop the accidental ringing?

You can bend the spring a little, or take it apart and put a washer or two in there to space the spring further from the bell. Of course if you do either, you'll have to pull the striker back more to make it ring.

How is it mounted? Can you mount it sideways on your handlebar stem? Then it won't bounce into the bell.

I have it mounted 'bell up.' I will try turning it before tomorrow's ride and see how that works, though I like the idea of adding washers or spacers.

I like the one that's mounted to the threadless spacer. Same bell, different mount
