Bad weather or what? It was raining one morning when I ran into a co-worker...she said "now, I *know* you didn't ride your bike in--" It was at that moment she realized I was coming downstairs from getting ready and carrying my helmet, etc. Looked at me like I was crazy! I just smiled. What can you do??

The one I get is "Don't you own a car? Isn't it a waste of money to pay for a car and not drive it?". Then I beat them over the head with a clue-by-four.

You can tell them

"This is how I get my exercise in and save gas at the same time."

Step 1: Create a mental list of people that have opinions that matter to you
Step 2: Make sure they are not on it
Step 3: Go on with your life

Problem solved.

"Why didn't you ride today?"
Works especially well in beautiful weather like we've had around here lately. I'd be kicking myself if I drove a car on days like this; it'd be a complete waste.
People love driving convertibles on nice days, but they don't realize that it's only a fraction of the way to perfection.

There is a gas station right next to our office. There is a huge sign that shows the increasing gas prices every day. Today it was 3.65. For a person to put in twenty gallons of gas it would be 75.00! So when a co-worker asks me if I rode my bike today I point to the sign out the window and ask "What do you think?"

Q "why didn't you drive today?"

A"why didn't you set fire to 10 dollar bills in bumper-to-bumper traffic while increasing your blood pressure, stress level and width of your ass?........ oh, wait a second"

I'm 180cm and 67kg. Whenever someone says something like that to me (if I have something handy) I like to pull out a bar of chocolate or a packet of chips, have a big bite, tap myself a few times on my (flat) stomache, look them square in the eye and say "I can eat whatever I want, as much as I want, whenever I feel like it."

once I'm back in shape I'm planning on doing that a lot

at the moment, however, I still have quite a bit of gut left over from my 5-month hiatus

Why didn't you drive today?

"Let's see, which answer would you like: environment, social responsibility, economics, foreign policy, health and fitness, or just plain common sense?

"Oh yeah, I really do like riding, too."

When I get to work after a bike ride, it's like coming to work after getting to go play for a half hour. I get to my desk nodding my head and singing, while my co-workers are grumbling and taking pain killers. Even when it's cold and wet out. They are old and fat. I am not. I am the same age as they are.

Perfect response to that would be: "I agree - why aren't you driving your car right now instead of bothering me?"

"why didn't I drive today?"

because I'd rather enjoy my commute than tolerate it.
