i got my first clipless pedals on monday. id never used this style of pedal before. i was riding and talking to someone trying to figure out where we were and i decided to stop so i could use the gps on my phone. i pulled up to a curb and stopped and leaned over to put my foot down but i'd only been riding 15 mins and i forgot my feet were clipped in so i just fell over. the fall wasnt bad at all but my thumb went right into a sewer grate. i ended up breaking my thumb and cutting the tip clean off. ouch.
i've continued riding with them since and i totally love them now that i am used to them. |
Damn that has to hurt.
I put spd pedals on my commuter tourer today and rode back from the shop... the only other bike I have with clipless pedals is my mountain bike and I am liking that set up for off road. Biggest plus... the power transfer is good and the shoes are well ventilated and the clipping in and out is a no brainer. |
yesterday was my first on clipless as well... eggbeaters. Wow! I am a convert... no more toe clips. I ride a fixie as a commuter and I have fallen over with too tight toe clips at red lights, and I almost fell over with the eggbeaters today, but got my foot out at the last second. gonna try that thing with the left turn of the handlebars...

I will be keeping the toe clips on my vintage fixed gear and vintage road bikes as I like them a great deal and my old school road shoes are also very comfortable and cool.
My more modern Kuwahra mtb / tourer / fixed gear might get another set of spd pedals to see how I like them on a fixed gear. |

I had a pretty good clipless fall yesterday. It involved coming to a 4 way intersection at the same time as a pretty gal in her car. I went into a trance thinking wow that girl is pretty hot, then SMACK I hit the ground. Bloodied up my left knee pretty well.

Girls in cars are dangerous but not nearly as dangerous as pretty girls on bikes... :D
