Would these make decent DIY Backpack/panniers?

The commuter forum seems to have the greatest interest in saddlebags(OK, panniers) so I post this here.

Would a pair of these make a good set of DIY panniers? $16.40 each, *Shipped*. They're sort of an urban notebook computer backpack, light gray color, extra side pockets, no rack mounts of course. Still- if you could add(make or buy-those Ortlieb mounts look mighty slick!) some rack mounts, & spray 'em down good with ScotchGard(to shed wet & dirt), seems like they might make pretty good backpack panniers. Maybe you could even dye 'em a darker color? Size is about right, they already have a carry handle on top, user-reviewers seem to think they're pretty sturdy. If anyone's interested, here's a link. FWIW- I have no financial interest in this. I have bought several times from Buy dot com, & never had a problem with them. Link: https://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...=17654#cRevSec

My vote is no. Wanna know why? The most important thing with a pannier is keeping it on the damn rack. These have no fittings to secure them to your rack, you'll be jury-rigging something, and it'll probably either be pretty shaky or a pain in the ass to remove when you want to take them off the bike, or both.

I really don't see why not. This might give you some good ideas on how it could be done.

They look way to wide to me; heel strike could be a major problem.
