i never thought this would be a problem, but it appears that there are so many fair weather commuters now that all the good spots are taken by the time i get to work.

this city is really changing rapidly. i don't remember it like this even just a couple of years ago. it's cool to see, but it's just weird being in "bike traffic jams" and not finding parking. those are problems for drivers, right?? :lol:

+1 on the parking problem. It is happening in Boston as well.

It has been happening here for at least the past year. If I am running late for work on a nice spring or summer day I will have a tough time finding a spot in my usual rack. Of course if its raining or cold or windy or even forecast to be any of those things then the rack is wide open with only 2-3 of us crazy enough to ride.

i'm having the same problem at my building. i'm all for more people on bikes, but i keep thinking....where the hell were all these people when it was 18degrees?

If the rack is provided by your employer, talk to your coworkers. Then document how many of you are biking to work so you can make a case for more bike parking. If there are customers who arrive by bike, emphasize that when you're making the case. Most businesses care a great deal about things like customer parking.

You can always get a folding bike and leave it under your desk.

actually i do have a folder in the house. which i bought thinking i could easily bring it up and down from the office. the dahon i have doesn't really fold all that small and at 30lbs it's kinda a hassle to deal with... especially in extremely crowded elevators and all that. plus, when i did use it, every security guard gave me the "eye" wondering what the hell i'm lugging into the building.

i like the idea of folders, but i just don't find mine all that practical.

...so, did you circle the rack waiting for a spot to become available? :p

They MADE me bring my bike into the building... Everyone was concerned about it getting stolen or vandalized parked outside. ;)

The rack in my building is beginning to get used as bike storage. One bike has been there, unmoved for more than a year. It found a neighbor a few weeks ago. I've never complained because having a full bike rack looks good and promotes it. It wouldn't take much for spaces to start becoming hard to find.
