First Commute Today, Great

Hello fellow Wheelmen,
I commuted to and from work today a total of 3 miles going and 4 miles back. It was so much fun going that I took the long way home through downtown and made an errand stop along the way. Yea it was fun. Took my 1982 all original Trek 614. I'm one of those guys you sometimes here about when he/she commutes that makes the headlines. You know, Public Works Director Commutes To Work.:ride: And I have parked up my city provided vehicle at work.
Welcome to Bike To Work Week everyone.
Tony

Good Job! I'm gonna start my commute next week when the kids get out of school.

Congrats! Are you ready for year round 'Bike to Work Week' now?

Thanks for the support and Techrydr, yep this makes day 4. Thirty some years ago, I commuted to work because I had 3 babies and really could not afford to drive. Now I gave up my city provided car and will commute everyday. I commute for many reasons, like health, economy, and Mother Earth, but really I just love it.
Later,
Tony

Good on ya, Tony! One thing I love most about bicycle commuting is being able to do errands and not having to hassle with either a)parking or b)does the bus/subway/whatever go by there, and will I have to pay another fare when I get back on.

How about wheel people?

Tony N. 05-26-08 09:45 AM

OK I got it, but you have to spell it one word, "Wheelpeople". Really tell's my age. I joined the "League Of American Wheelmen". It was changed as well as I can remember to make it more recognizable to everyday non biking peope to "League Of Americam Bicylist". Some of you may remember that we voted on it and were quite split on the decision. Guess you can tell which side I was on. Back then there was no mention of trying to make it politically correct but I am for it today as I agree we need to encourage everyone to ride and participate. It is rare around here to see adult females on bikes commuting. We have lots of them on club rides but I just love to see them shopping and running erands on their bikes. My wide used to drop the kids off at day school and then run erands with the cart. She loved it.
Keep on trucking all,
Tony
