Do you talk to yourself when riding?

Or am I a weirdo?

I don't care to ride with earphones, so I don't listen to music. Most of the time I'm happy just listening to regular outdoor sounds and the bike (and my own labored breathing), but I talk to myself, too...but then, I do that even when I'm not on the bike. Helps me plan out my day and organize my thoughts on whatever...

Just curious if I am an anomaly or not...

Nope, I talk to myself all the time. I'm better about doing it in my head these days, but I used to do it out loud at work all the time. I even had another guy talking to himself cause I did it so much.

I usually think of a song or plan things out in my head. I don't think I find myself actually talking outloud.
It's actually quite peaceful being out in the air even though there may be many cars around.

Yeah I talk to myself, but it's always inside my head. There are times that I laugh out loud due to a funny thought, but I don't let the voices inside my head become audible by others.

I wouldn't want to look like a crazie.

I don't talk to myself....

All the cute little animals I see on my commute, though, are probably tired of hearing from me. "Hey, cute kitty!" "Oooh, little birds! You're snack-sized! Stay away from that cute kitty on Pierce St.!" "What's up, ya big ol' horse? If I wasn't running late, I'd take your picture!" ...and so on.

Maybe.... What can I say, sometimes I need a bit of a pep talk to make it up hills!

I talk to drivers sometimes, too. Quietly and politely, though.

Yup

I often talk to myself while riding to work through the stuff cluttering up my brain. If I'm on a bicycle, everything makes a bit more sense. If I have a difficult decision to make, or a problem I'm not sure how to handle, I just go for a bike ride. By the end of it I'm usually feeling better. I'm usually not talking out loudly to myself (more of like in my head...but sometimes it probably comes out)... but sometimes talking to myself can help me organize my thoughts better for some reason. When I'm not on a bicycle I turn to writing more than talking to myself. I guess the talking is just a replacement for being able to write it down. Of course most of the time I just ride... it's not usually about psychoanalyzing my life . Sometimes it is though, which is one reason I've always enjoyed going for bike rides by myself. It's especially effective on a quiet path/trail or a road with little traffic. If I'm on a busy road there are just too many interruptions, and I have to pay more attention to everything around me.

And as much as I love music, I have never listened to it while bicycling. I like having all my senses available. I listen to music while I'm walking (unless I'm on a hike in the woods). I also listen to music at work on the headphones.

Sometimes I talk to myself. Sometimes I talk to other drivers, usually something like "Lesse, can we be any slower pulling outta here..." or "I think the amount of space you leave a cyclist when passing is directly proportional to the size of the passer's genitals... thanks for passing me with three inches to spare... shortie" They can't hear me, but it helps me vent frustration.

Sometimes I also sing.

I talk to myself ALL the time. My favorite thing to do is scream like a lunatic when going under a bridge because it echoes like crazy. Im a bit of a nutjob.

I actually tried this a couple times in the last month. My whole commute, I kept a running monologue about what I saw; animals, weather, crazy drivers, what speed I was going, what gear, what cadence, etc. I was thinking about how one would write about riding a bike in traffic, because everything happens so fast and there's just so much of it. It was interesting, but didn't become a habit.

Hahaha, yes...I feel it is always good luck to say something to all the animals I see. I even saw a big (2-3" x 24-36" long) snake on the road yesterday and greeted it. It was quite a good-looking snake, even if it startled me a bit.

I'll sing sometimes, but I frequently find myself counting in my head each time I inhale and exhale...that could be a little of my OCD peeking through since there is no purpose to it.

No, but yesterday I had to swerve into high speed traffic to avoid hitting two adult wrong way riders. I was going to yell at them but they were both so busy talking to themselves that I figured they had plenty of issues going on in their heads already. They were a couple of homeless guys I see all over the place and always talking to themselves. Poor fellows

There's nothing wrong with talking to yourself.

When you start answering yourself is when you've got a problem.

I curse and grunt. Mainly due to the fact that it has been insanely windy around here.
Normally I daydream about etl designs, projects, and what not. Occasionally, I sing.
No talking. That bugs the heck out of me.

putting on a front of sanity

I want drivers to see sane people biking to work, if they see me talking to myself then that wouldn't help the cause! the kids on the dirtjump track I pass before hitting the street are definitely afraid of me by now tho...
