Why did I have to look!!!

So, I stopped by my favorite LBS where I bought my Breezer for a looksee since I was thinking about a different bag to fit on my rack. They had in the store probably the most beautiful bike I have ever seen, an ANT roadster. Luckily, not my size but I can't stop thinking about it. It is exactly the bike I have been wishing that someone would make. Please talk some sense into me.

$2000. Spend it on a trip to Maui or Venice instead.

katmu 05-20-08 04:14 PM

Still not working, but I'm not really a Maui kind of person. Venice I would love but so many tourists.

chephy 05-20-08 04:39 PM

Pff.. A trip lasts a week or two. A bike stays with you for years. The choice is obvious. ;)

The idea of the thread was to talk me OUT of buying another bike remember. Although, maybe could I save up and justify it as a 40th B-Day / youngest off to college present to me in 2010??

You picked a wrong forum for it, sorry. :p

Not if you get VD on the trip. ;)

to OP: This thread makes about as much sense as holding an AA meeting in a bar. "My name is Mr. Underbridge, and I'm a bikeaholic. I haven't bought a new bike in two weeks. But on my way home, I saw this awesome cross bike, and...."

bkrownd 05-20-08 05:22 PM

Ah, I thought this was going to be a thread about roadkill...

katmu 05-20-08 05:26 PM

I did see a dead rabbit yesterday on the way home that the crows were enjoying, but somehow that is easier for me to block out.

And I don't think I qualify as a bikeaholic yet. 2 bikes in the last 15 years doesn't really make me an addict.

I used to go around January-March, when it's pretty quiet. Bring a warm rain jacket and waterproofed shoes, though.

squirtdad 05-20-08 05:39 PM

Sense about bikes, here? Surely you jest!

Not Venice given the relative "value" of the American dollar.

Easy, Contact ANT and put yourself on the waiting list for one in your size.:p

Oh, you wanted to be talked out of buying a gorgeous hand built bicycle that with care will last for decades. It that case talk to your co-workers or wife, 'cause you've come to the wrong place here.:D

That's not a single speed.

I went to a bike fundraiser in Davis Square, Somerville, Mass. a couple days ago and they gave away a beautiful ANT utility bike. Some lucky soul paid $15 for a ticket, which was good for some BBQ and beer, and then they went home with an ANT with all the fixin's. I wanted to win so bad my head hurt.

How does the thought of it collecting dust in some Joe's garage make your head feel :p

Sorry to rub it in...

That joke loses something in print.

Also, if you're turning 40, this could easily qualify for midlife crisis or at least "pre-empty nest" syndrome with the last one going to college in a couple years. My friend's dad bought a BMW M-Roadster when he was around 45-50ish. That probably cost at least $75,000. I think $2,000 is a reasonable splurge in that perspective.

Then it is high time you fell of the wagon :roflmao2: I love the A.N.T. bikes too...just can't quite justify the cost on one...yet. So I bought a new Redline R530 instead.:innocent:

Aaron:)

Meh, that bike needs lugs and nicer paint job. :)

I do like the chain guard though. I want to fit one of those on my Atlantis.
In the processing of fitting the internal hub and new cranks now.

Definitely in denial - remember, the first step is to admit you have a problem!

Sorry to rub it in...

I was at the same fund raiser, totally not how that would play out.

A) It was a cycling specific event and I think anyone there would want that bike.

B) Even if they didn't want they had the option of taking a week long class with Mike Flanigan (who runs ANT) and building their own custom bike in lieu of the bad ass cargo bike.

I'm still jealous...

BCRider 05-21-08 12:44 PM

$2000 ! ! ! ! !

I like the bike but there's SO many ways to reach the same end for 1/2 or less of that price!

PROJECT TIME! ! ! ! ! :thumb:
