First flat in 3 years of commuting...

Well, I knew my lucky streak had to end sometime. My rear tube exploded this AM on the way into work. Stopped and put the spare tube in and was on my way in less than 5 minutes. This is why I carry a spare tube in addtion to a patch kit. I'll stop on the way home at my LBS and pick up a new spare tube.

too much air perhaps? i had a tube explode on me before and i think it was the summer heat that did it

So that begs the question, what tires were you running?

Yes, that is what I am thinking. I pumped them up this morning like I usually do after the weekend and more than likely put too much in.

Continental Top Touring 2000 37c ...I don't think you can buy them anymore though.

Been there, I have pumped my tires hastily and just started riding only to find the tube pushing out from behind the rtire and then *pow* it pops, dang it.

You need to ride more! :D

I get one once a year. Usually from hitting some construction debris that fell off a truck (razor blade or something). Tends to destroy the tire too. I ride through glass shards all the time with my Bontrager HardCase lights without much issue :) sometimes its unavoidable...
