Introducing the Topeak Jango...

Neato. I really like the trailer. Now they have a bike to go with all the doodads they make.

Forget the bike,I just want to know when I can buy one of these:

Is it just me, or on first glancing at that picture it looks like a) there is no right crank arm and b) the left crank arm is to the right of the frame??

Where's ItsJustMe?

newbojeff 06-02-08 12:56 PM

Cute website. Neat idea. Really ugly bike.

bigbenaugust 06-02-08 01:00 PM

I guess a good way to sell your bike accessories is to sell your own bike. I think most companies do it the other way around, though.

+1 on the ugly. I'm also anti-suspension.

No information at all about where to purchase one or anything else. It looks like Vaporware like the RevoPower motor wheel. http://www.revopower.com/ They've been anticipating launch dates since early 2005. They even started taking $300 pre-orders in 2006.

That trailer looks neat, but I worry the connection to the bike will be proprietary.

abmtnbkr 06-02-08 10:49 PM

Very cool website. I spent about 45 minutes messing around with the configurations. Thanks for the link!

Jango

The Jango line is finally here in the US market, and will be available soon, nationally. We are now opening shops in the east and soon will have our network in the west. If you have a shop you like and feel it would be a good fit, let me know.

The bike is retailing for less than originally quoted, not $1600, but $1195. Many of the Topeak accessories work with the line, and of course there are the specific Jango accessories too.

Way too mountain bikey. Converting a MTB into a commuter/tourer is hardly groudbreaking or IMHO the best choice. Suspension? Front and Rear? All the add ons and junk just look cluttered proprietary and inelegant. In short the whole package is non starter for me.

I will say that I like the Topeak company, they make same darn good accessories that I use (or have with me every day) and have provided me with great customer service.

Trailer just looks like a takeoff of the BOB design. Alivio components on the bike? Meh.

I have some Topeak stuff, but the bike is a reach.

Specialized was selling stuff before they sold a single bike.

+1 The Topeak Road Morph w/gauge is the best as well as the mini-multi. Have and love alot of their accessories and always look to TP first...the bike? Nah, I'll pass. But the website was fun w/all the different configurations.

WOW. A great bike and system. $1100 is ridiculous for a bike with low level Shimano (you should be at LX or above). You seem bound to failure with such a great idea, but poor price level.

Try a Spring time Demo at some major cities and ask how much they'll pay. Three easy payments on QVC might help you out. The more you look at this the more it seems like a late night infomercial.

I truley hope you can make this work. The bicycle industry needs fresh ideas to get drivers out of their cars.

madfolder 01-05-09 06:47 AM

Thanks for all the great feedback. The bike was never targeted for the "bikie" that would study the complete make up and componentry of the bike. It was designed as a lifestyle bike, bring a fresh approach to those that had veered away from cycling, but are on the path for wellness. It is fun, and innovative. Price is less of an issue than making the bike fit the needs of the rider, down to the customizable head badge. Only the 700c version is in the states, and the stock bike comes with front and rear lights, a locking front disc, bell, adjustable stem, and many more features to make the bike both comfortable, and easy to adapt.

I know it can be hard to step back when you are heavily into a sport, but if we can get more people riding because there is a bike that appeals to a whole other segment, that would bode well for all riders....
Thanks for the comments! keep them coming.

Ugh. This thing again?

Erick L 01-05-09 09:18 AM

I fail to see what's innovative about this bike. Except for highly specialized bikes, any bike can be customized like that. The website's a mess too.

Newbie

As a newbie w/limited (very) budget, the Jango looked good to me. Found one online at a decent price. I ride 6 mi. to work ea day, weather permitting. I bought Trek 7.2 FX, but at 64 yrs, my body feels a bit 'jangled', so I need some suspension. Looking for some feed back on the Jango before I put more $$ into my Trek for suspension seat post and seat. Can anyone help? Oh...I need minimum 17.5 from crank to seat post (30" inseam) and I have long arms. :backpedal

That thing looks like a design school hybrid, and not in a good way.
I bet it rides like a pig.
