Hot Asphalt!

I will now wince every time I have to drive over fresh asphalt patches in my car, knowing how truly nasty that it is. I was riding in this morning and was doing a pretty good job at dodging the asphalt patches, but there was a good line of it that was unavoidable short of stopping, hopping up onto the sidewalk or merging into oncoming traffic.

I'll be hopping up on the sidewalk in the future. Firstly, this was pretty fresh stuff as I saw the guy patching less than a block later, so it was pretty warm. It didn't burn but it did make me aware of the fact that its hot. Secondly, it sticks, to everything, especially leg hair. Oh, and if you don't brush it off immediately, it hardens on your hair and you wind up pulling out hair to get it off.

Oh well, live and learn. Maybe I'll invest in some fenders for my bike. Next time though I'll be sure to take the high road or at least another route. It wasn't as bad as I likely made it sound, but it definitely wasn't a pleasant experience. So, for those who like me are new to commuting, or those who are veterans and haven't encountered hot asphalt patches - avoid 'em
