Well I'm young (21) and I go almost everywhere by bike. Occasionally I walk or take the bus or subway. I don't currently hold a license.

I have been using my bike as transportation since early high school. I have not found any reason to stop. Of course, I never really think of it as commuting. It's just how I get from A to B.

To me, driving a car is like smoking. I'm still waiting to hear a good reason to start.

That's great, Bikerider. I hope you are a role model for others, as I believe you are.

I'm 34 but started biking at 21. I needed a job while I attended school. Alot of my friends who purchased cars never finished college and I didn't want to end up selling cars or working at Pathmark the rest of my life. I can't tell you how many people I met over the years who gave up college to pay for their cars.

Anyway. I used my brothers 10 speed to get to work. After college, I continued to commute but had to park the bike to catch the train into Manhattan. Then I discovered the folder. So now I go right into the city.. Bike and all.

I might use that one when people ask me why I haven't bought a car yet.

And they say cyclists are "addicted."

I'm 51, SBSU, ( single but "shacked up") and have a 10 mile commute (one way). I haven't been commuting lately, ten miles in the snow with some of the worst drivers on the planet is not my idea of the best fun and I get bronchitis WAY easy, ( I'm recovering from my last ride).

I started riding, 30 yrs ago, after I blew up my knee, thanks to a motorcycle I couldn't sell fast enough and rugby. I couldn't run anymore to stay in shape for skiing and bikes were no longer "uncool" 'cause the bike boom was heavy...

Soon to be 52 - SAT DEC 29 2001

Ride 'cause you can

I'm 39, have a 9/6/4 yr old and my commute is about 20 mi r/t. Unfortunately, I've been off my bike for a month now, with a slightly sprained ankle and a rotten weather (ice & snow)

The good news is that I just orded two Nokkia spiked tires. Can't wait to try them out! My goal is to have NO body plants in 2002 (3 in 2001)

ride safely,
Tom

P.S. we all ride bikes...see http://www.nettworks.ch/tt/tandem.html for pictures!
