I am new

I am new to this forum. I commute 3 to 5 days week and each way is 25 miles. I live in Bham, Al and the Humidity really sucks this week. I have been commuting on and off for several years but have increased this year. What is the typical commute on this forum?

~6 miles one-way. Mostly flat and hence a relatively easy commute compared to others, I'm guessing. I can't believe I only started this year, as I've lived in the same place for the past 4 years and have been driving to work (only 10 minutes with no traffic) all this time. Better late than never, I guess.

Mine is 15 mi each way. I really enjoy it, but would almost certainly not attempt an extra 20 miles each day...

That's a good commute (I'm 26 miles round trip). I'm sure you wouldn't want to do more than 3 days a week for that. You'll be in great shape though!!

I do 17 miles each way with very few traffic ctops and only one 90 ft vertical climb on the way home. I only do it a couple of times a week. Skinster, what do you have in the way of hills and stops for traffic?

I commute 4.3 each way. 3 times a week I go running after I get home, 1 or 2 times a week I take a long alternate route home.

I have a friend (I know, don't we all), that takes his bike on the bus to work, 30 miles, 3 days a week, and rides it home.

I agree that's a serious commute. Mine is 10 miles round trip and only a challenge in winter.

skinster,

That's a darn long commute. I ride 10 miles r/t with a few moderate hills. Maybe 4 days out of 6 I'll ride.
Good work on your part and keep it up.

You are New....

I am Old. Now that we have that out of the way.....25 each way is a haul. My commute is 15 or 16 each way depending on if I stick to the MUP (16) or street commute (15). The MUP is a nice scenic route that has lots of nice things to look at especially in the warmer months when the lady joggers, walkers and rollerbladers shed some clothes. I take the street when I am pressed for time and/or don't feel like yelling at the idiots walking three abreast on the path and are too engaged in their convo to move out of the way.
