Ride On 06-04-08 08:35 AM

New to the Forum

Daily commute started this morning at 5:30AM - 18 miles in. Hit the gym afterwards. My path takes me along a swamping stretch - Canadian Geese with goslings typically make way, but some can be pretty aggressive and persistent. Saw a bunch of snapping turtles laying eggs in the soft stone. (yearly thing first part of June - I think it coincides with the full moon.) Hopefully will dodge the rain on the way home this afternoon.

Welcome!

I ride along the Erie canal for a significant part of my commute. I have seen Canadian geese, rabbits, foxes, groundhogs, chipmunks, and numerous deer. In fact, I was cruising along side a galloping deer thinking "Wow, I'm cruising along side a galloping deer!" Until the deer darted in front of me and I nearly crashed. :D

Near accident

Had a similar incident when a squirrel decided to dart in front of me. Missed him with my front tire by inches. Might have to install those deer collision avoidance devices you find on the front grills of cars.

The geese are your friends.

Hi Ride On, As you likely already know the Canada Geese being in your way is not the real problem. It's the little presents that they leave behind on the trail. Enjoy our geese and if you need more let me know, we have way too many for my liking.
Happy commuting!

Hey welcome to the forum.

I too cycle past some wetland along side a road and noticed something kinda odd. I've seen cars pass the same area and not disturb the birds at all, but when i cycle by, they all take off. Guess they're conditioned to ignore loud motor vehicles but a quiet cyclist freaks em right out.
