This heat wave is nuts. It's not too bad riding cause I have the moving air. It's the stopping ... oh gawd ... the stopping. Hey, how many litres of water does it take a rather large mammal to ride 28 miles round-trip? If you guessed 6, you are correct!

Waiting for the heat to finally arrive here. We've had an unusually cool and windy spring. I'm ready to ditch the arm and knee warmers.

Call me a wus, i dont care, 101 heat index (94 actual) today, i took the a/c in my sort of economical truck. Maybe with some more experience commuting i might have braved it, but i also work in a hot, steel constructed, uninsulated, sweaty shop so i get no relief during the day either.

Do I detect a pattern here? Cool in the west, hot in the east?

Its been absolutely perfect here the last few days! Mid 70's, sunny, slight breeze. Loving it. Perfect time for me to stop driving I do believe! Of course when it inevitably heats up I may die...

Is the heat killing your commute?

No ... the never-ending rain and cold is killing my commute. And I live on the dry side of the mountains!!!

I'd love to have a bit of sun and heat.

it's 104 right now. it doesn't kill my commute, just makes it a wee bit uncomfortable. No, wait, uncomfortable is when it gets to 112.

I saw the temp on my odometer roll over to 01š on the ride home. Yeah.

It didn't feel too bad though, because I worked outside all day anyhow!

I'm tired of this heat. Machka, I'd give it away to you for free if I could. Anybody got a fan big enough to blow some hot air over there from Philly?

Touched 99 briefly, with heat index well over 100, in Boston today.
Low of 77 degrees tonight. Same tomorrow. We'll probably have some wicked thunder storms when this all is supposed to blow out tomorrow night.

Weird thing was the wind changed directions and parts of Boston towards the ocean dropped 20 degrees in 20 minutes. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed when I stepped out of my office and it was only 80 degree. I think I rode out of the cool zone to the land of 90s by the time I got home, though.

Since I lost 15-20lbs from commuting, I still tolerate the cold as well as ever, but I tolerate the heat really well. Sweaty, but it's all good fun.

I'm in Cary, NC and it got into triple digits today. Last summer we had about six week of triple digit highs. I'd recommend, drinking plenty of water. Drink gatorade or some other recovery drink during/after your rides and plenty of plain 'ol water the rest of the day. Try your best to keep moving on your ride - stopping on the asphalt can feel like sitting in an oven. My body acclimated to the temperatures after the first week or so which made the rest of the season a lot more tolerable.

As always, your mileage may vary.

South Carolina commuter, 102 degrees today. I really feel the heat most when I am climbing, but otherwise it's not so bad. Can anyone explain to me why it is more difficult to climb in the heat than in the cooler weather? (I am a science student, and genuinely curious). I mean, I do sweat, don't get me wrong, but when I get to the hills, it gets very difficult to keep my breath. I am in good shape, could lose ten pounds, low blood pressure and resting pulse rate, been commuting by bike for a good while, but the heat just gets me on the uphills. Anyone got an explanation?

Thanks,
Joey

Boston is a windy *******, but in summer I really love that onshore breeze that we typically get in the AM --
cool moist briny air, mmm.

Assuming you are riding at similar output as on the flats then perhaps it is because of less airflow to help sweat evaporate.

I wish I could send what I've got your way ... I didn't commute again today because of the weather, but I did get out for a short ride early this evening.

10C/50F
Heavily overcast with distant precipitation
Winds @ 30 km/h
