Wrong-Way eBikes
After reading the ebike thread earlier, I started looking at some of the YouTube videos about electric bikes. Almost all of the people riding them were doing really stupid s**t -- sidewalks really fast, wrong side of the street, curb-hugging then whipping out around parked cars...
check this example out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7FIL...eature=related If people are going to ride electric bikes at 35 MPH and above, especially people w/o very good skills or knowledge, we're going to see a lot more dead cyclists on the news. I can see some great advantages in setting up one of these and an xtracycle -- like being able to go on long rides and having the wife ebike a long dragging the kids... so I'm not a hater or anything... but people need to recognize. |
One day you will realize that the majority of the human race is stupid, ignorant, and lazy. Then you will finally be able to relax. (If people want to kill themselves, let them.)

1. exceeding 10 mph on a sidewalk 2. riding the wrong direction 3. riding on the sidewalk in a business district 4. failing to yield to pedestrians |
to quote "men in black" A PERSON is smart. people are dumb panicky animals and you know it. once in a group most people seem to lose the ability for independent thought.

I love that quote! Here's one from the ER I work at.... "Can't cure stupid" |
That is the problem I have with ebikes. A beginning rider is usually limited by fitness to a lower speed (excluding down hills) and as they acquire fitness and gain speed, they gain experience and knowledge as well. With an ebike, the rider skips straight to the end-going fast, bypassing the months (years?) of experience gained by riding.

Then they look at me like I'm a horrible criminal  for riding below the speed limit, through an intersection, with a green light. It's so ridiculous that it makes me laugh nearly every time. :roflmao2: |
That is some scary sh^! That guy is gonna get killed. And then he will be one more statistic that gets quoted to me from non-riders, ending in, "Riding your bike is really dangerous."

Great! there may be some wrecked e-bikes with salvageable components coming up in deceased estate sales soon.

Not my cup of tea those types of bikes. Just another hazard to watch out for on MUP's and bike tracks/lanes. There is a company based right near my cycle track that makes motorized skateboards and other motorized "boys toys". Commuting when those guys are about always reminds me on the Millennium Falcon dropping out of hyperspace into the asteroid field. :twitchy: :notamused:
OK_commuter that is one fabulous Avatar  |
