Noob here from Wichita Falls. Any chance the Mods can make a sticky with all of the common acronyms for us losers that can't figure them out. Thanks.

haha, yeah i had trouble with that one too when i first started browsing bike forums a while ago. I was like "what is that LBS store chain everyone talks about; i don't have one in my town."
i don't see a good thread after a quick search, but here's a couple i can think of off the top of my head:
LBS - local bike shop
WW - weight weenie, someone obsessed w/ their bike's weight (to an fault).
YMMV - your mileage may vary, means your just speaking for yourself; could be different for others.
BB - bottom bracket
SS/FG - single speed/ fixed gear. (furthermore, any forum on this site could be shortened as an acronym)
MUP - multi-use path
hmmm, i can't think of any other bike-specific acronyms of the top of my head right now.
there's some more in this thread (some are useful, some not so much).

Welcome to bikeforums! I'll be in WF, this Saturday. I was born there and still have family there.
What part of town are you in?

Go through that. If you make it through the whole site you will have completed at least an associates degree in bicycles.

I e-mailed the site admin back in May asking for a glossary link at the top, he wrote me back and said he sent the idea out to the mods to see what they thought.
After more then a month passed and I did not hear anything or see a new link appear, I figured they did not like the idea.
BF is Bike Forums, boy wasn't that a duh moment when I figured that one out...

fred:
1. n. a person who spends a lot of money on his bike and clothing, but still can't ride. "What a fred -- too much Lycra and titanium and not enough skill." Synonym for poseur. Occasionally called a "barney".
2. n. a person who has a mishmash of old gear, does't care at all about technology or fashion, didn't race or follow racing, etc. Often identified by chainring marks on white calf socks. Used by "serious" roadies to disparage utility cyclists and touring riders, especially after these totally unfashionable "freds" drop the "serious" roadies on hills because the "serious" guys were really posers. This term is from road touring and, according to popular myth, "Fred" was a well-known grumpy old touring rider, who really was named Fred.
And yes, I am fred

I'm in W. Floral Heights. Trying to prep for the HH100, just hoping to get past Hell's Gate in time and suck it up for the rest.

That's Kemp at around 10th street, right? My grandmother is at Kell & Harrison and my other grandmother used to live on Fillmore, near Seymour Hwy, so back in the 70's, I would ride my skateboard back and forth between the two. Good times.

Yep, we live a few blocks west of Kemp in a pretty cool little historic district. It just sucks that you can go 2 blocks to the other side of Kemp and you're in the ghetto.
