You must be from the suburbs of Atlanta if you think that's true. Boston drivers are aggressive, yes, but they're also quite a bit more competent than the average driver elsewhere in the country, and more used to sharing the road with non-auto traffic. The result is a pretty good environment for cyclists. It's crowded, but it's crowded for everyone, so, y'know...suck it up.

Not Atlanta, but close, very close. Try Charlotte. While I was there for a few months consulting I saw quite the opposite, some knew exactly what they were doing, others were in way over their head, and it got down right dangerous. I saw people stopping in the middle of the highway's turn the flashers on to back up to get back to an exit, why they could not go the the next one was beyond me. It was entertaining to say the least. I am sure it is like any other city, it takes awhile to get the "flow" of how traffic works and once you do its fine. I am sure people would say the same about Charlotte if they are not used to it.

My personal experience is that the public transit buses are the most predictable and law-abiding vehicles on the road. Of course I'm sure it varies greatly from location to location.

In DC,we've had two investigations by the local news about how bad the bus drivers are. They have them on video speeding, running lights, cutting people off, etc. We've also had several peds killed in crosswalks by buses. During the second report, they interviewed one of the managers for the bus system and the woman said,"I would hope that if they're(the bus drivers) engaging in unsafe acts, that they're doing it as safe as possible". I kid you not. :twitchy:

Ah, okay, so you weren't in Boston. You were out in the 'burbs where the highways are. It's different in the city. Can't say I'd ride my bike on 128, either.

I thought the rest of the title was going to read "I'm reloading."

I was stopped at a red light yesterday on my way home. I've taken to stopping not at the outermost spot bur rather a car back from the intersection. And in this case there was a bus that was partly turned so I definitely wasn't going to stop right next to his wheels. Anyway when the light turned green he didn't move, he kept waiting. Was he waiting for me? Some drivers are overly cautious and create new kinds of road hazards.
