Google Walking Directions
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I just got added to the Google Walking Directions Beta test.
It was not perfect, but the directions provided were a lot closer to a good bike route than the old standard directions google provided. I had to do a lot less route changing to get a good commute route.
I think this is currently only being rolled out to current google users. So if you want the chance to try it, sign up for some google service that requires a login, and you just might get lucky.
Just a heads up for anyone who hasn't heard of this yet.

I haven't tried it, but I did hear one thing that you will want to keep in mind: Because it's for walking, Google doesn't pay attention to direction on one-way streets. It's probably not an issue a lot of the time, but it's something to keep in mind if you're using it an area that has one-way streets because it may send you against traffic.

Yes, the inital route that it gives you won't be perfect, but it seems like it requires much less route changing than with driving directions. Just the simple fact that it automatically avoids interstates is a huge boon.
The only problem that I found in my area is that there are some parks that it will bypass because it doesn't have the walking paths in the system. Hopefully they will have some sort of submission program for this.
Also, if they can do this, it doesn't seem like it would be a lot of extra coding to get a biking algorithm in place.
