My Surly Cross Check Build

Several months ago I was riding a Felt F1X cyclocross bike as a commuter - it was a great bike, but the aluminum frame and race-oriented geometry wasn't really suited to what I was using it for. I wanted to get a steel frame to use as a commuter/do everything bike. I looked at Somas, Gunnars, Sycips, etc., but decided on the trusty Cross Check frameset from Surly.

I took the 105 shifters and 105/Ultegra drive train off the Felt to use for this bike and built up the rest. I've only got a few hundred miles on it so far, but I really love it. The steel frame makes a huge difference. I am hesitant to call this bike "done," but I'm pretty happy with it. I might end up replacing the 46/36 chainrings for a 50/34 combo and put a 12-27 cassette on it; maybe a Brooks B17 at some point as well. The fenders will be going on soon once the rainy season starts in October.

I am really happy with the way this turned out, and building up the bike was an invaluable learning experience, even though I had quite a bit of help from my LBS. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!
