GR PRess commuting article and anti bike comments
Nice article on the rise in bike commuting in the Grand Rapids Press. Of course the comments at the end of the article reflect a lot of anti-bike anger. Might need some intelligent comments from some bikeforum members?

Go post that over in A&S, that should be a good time. |

this has got to be a "copy and paste" article. I've been seeing pretty much the exact same article in dozens of papers.
"(insert city name here) bicyclists fight for a piece of the road" insert points about $4 a gallon gas, mention problems with drivers, and throw in "emergency room", wham! bam! mix and match, you've got yourself another article on bike commuting. Post to your news site, and sit back and watch the page views roll in, and the anti-bike comments stack up. |

I think in some areas cyclists get more support though. |
Personally, I try to avoid main roads as much as possible. I try to mix in suburban streets with sidewalks to get places. I feel that suburban streets are a safer choice due to having far less traffic and lower speed limit. I do not like the sidewalks since they're bumpy, but I rather shake my hands a little bit than go on the roads here. And when I do have no other choice but to share a road, I sprint it out until the next sidestreet/sidewalk.
I am pleased to see an increase of cyclists in the area and even some coverage. |
my favorite comment snip: "Why get all dressed up like that anyway, would wearing everyday clothes give you a better workout? Not to mention keeping yourselves from looking stupid." Good grief.....
