My new ride! :)

Well, I decided to forego the hunched over racer look and go with something a bit more comfortable for my general riding and commute. It's not outifitted for commuting yet, I just got it delivered yesterday.
The bigger tires (35mm) rides SMOOTH! I recommend them to anyone. So, here is my Rivendell Bleriot.

d2create 08-15-08 11:22 AM

oh, and sweet kickstand! ;)

Quickbeam 08-15-08 11:23 AM

Very nice! Rivs look kinda naked without fenders, bags, racks, etc. though. Enjoy your new ride!

Thanks all I haven't had a chance to go on a ride other than around the block yet (had to bring CPR dummies back to work today). I love how smooth the tires ride though, at least around the block. I'm moving from a Giant TCX cyclocross bike to the Riv. The Riv weighs in at 27 lbs vs. 24 with the Giant, I was really worried about that when I went with the Riv. After riding around the neighborhood last night, I didn't notice any appreciable difference while moving. We'll see when I get to the 2 mile hill on the way home from work, BUT I also have lower gears on the Riv (compact double on the TCX).

Nice Bike! - umm, are the levers for changin' gears on the end of the drops comfortable to work with while riding?

This is my first bike with bar end shifters and it only took a few minutes to get used to them. I do find a bike with a rapid rise rear derailure (easier to shift into a higher gear, reverse mech.) is easier to get used to than a bike with a normal rise RD, it seems more intuative...

(wondering if I can drive in the HOV lanes with CPR dummies....:))

Only if you have a tandem.

Podolak 08-15-08 12:33 PM

OK that is so purdy. I just love lugged steel.

d2create 08-15-08 12:38 PM

Bar-end shifters are great. Never had them until my Atlantis, but I love them now. Especially if you run in friction mode, which I highly recommend. They keep you from over shifting and I NEVER EVER have to make derailleur adjustments.

threeflys 08-15-08 12:41 PM

I have my rear indexed and front friction. I did shift too far into the granny gear last night and drop the chain! :D

bikebuddha 08-15-08 12:42 PM

Ok, I really want one of these.

My Atlantis showed up that way and after falling in love with the front being friction, i switched the rear to friction and never went back. If your chain is going too far you need to adjust your derailleur limiter screws.

Friction shifting is the method of the gods.

Edit: or of whatever deity you subscribe to.

FYI- the ones that various places have in stock are the last ones going to be made.....if you really want a Bleriot, you need to ast least buy the frame/fork now ($750 or less).
