You know you're a real bike commuter when...

- you move three miles closer to work and are sad about it
- you wake up to find you're out of coffee and are happy about it (in fact excited to go try the new Wald basket on your grocery bomber)
- you size up every bike on every rack
- you do your commute ride even though you're on vacation

In other words, you are nuts. As I seem to have become lately, having experienced all the above.

- you groan and whine that it looks like rain, but a mile down the road you discover you're grinning and waving at the drivers, who look at you like you're insane.

You get on your bike and ride to work, then for an encore you ride home after work.
Wow, that was glamorous.

Ha! This actually happened to me. I DID move to a town closer to work, and, while I was looking for a rental place, I was trying to get it to be as far away from work (within the town of my choice) as possible. I got a great place closer than I would have liked, so I started taking a rather roundabout route to work.

- You forget about your pant cuff reflectors and embarass your daughter/son
- You get excited about having full fenders with mudflaps
- Your fondest wish is a SON generator hub wheel, and a Schmidt E6

You've got a wedding to attend on a Saturday and you have to make a detour to the office because that's where all your dress shoes are.

Funny you mention that. My friend was supposed to get married on 08-08-2008. Unfortunately, the wedding was called off. I told him that I was going to commute there on my bike. I have plenty of friends that were willing to give me a ride. But I told them that I wanted to ride the 4+ miles one way.

Now my friend wants to start riding with me and my cousins. So he brought over his Trek 820 last Wednesday, so I can clean/tune/lube it up. I called him on Sunday to let him know it was ready, with an exception of a few replacements. He can't wait to start riding. It'll be good for him, and us.

- You chose not to have a company paid parking spot. (although you are a owner of the company)

- It's been at least 6 months since any one pointed out that you ride your bike to work every day.

No kidding...

I've got a pile of dress shoes in my locker at work. I should keep at least one pair at home just in case.

-Your Driver's License and your vehicle license tabs both expire, and you don't notice for months
-People you've worked with for years don't even know what your car looks like
-People you've never met stop you to tell you that they have been inspired to ride their bike by watching you go by every day
