My new bike - DARTH PUGSLEY
Bikeforums, meet Darth Pugsley. Darth Pugsley, meet bikeforums.
I finally got my new ride. After waiting for a Spot Highline order to come my way for about 5 months, I changed my mind, cancelled the order, and built up a Surly Pugsley instead. After test riding one a few times, I had no choice, it's such a fun ride.
Specs: 22" Surly Pugsley frame, Shimano Alfine internal 8 speed hub, Kris Holm 29er rims, Schwalbe 29x2.4 Big Apples, OnOne Mary Handlebars, Avid BB7's, Surly rear Nice Rack...Everything in black.
The Endomorph's will wait until winter. I want to test ride the Alfine hub for awhile and see if I think it will be sufficient for the Endo's. Planet Bike Cascadia fenders are on order.
And I know most people will find this 'excessive' as a commuter. But the last bike I bought was in 1993 and I was still commuting on it up until last week. I plan to ride this one (in various formats) for the next 20 years.

What would be excessive about it? I think it's a great commuter. You can really bomb around on that thing.

Wow, only on a Pugsley could the large Big Apples just look like normal street tires. 
Looks like an awesome bike, and I think you'll really like the Surly rack, too. (assuming you haven't already tried one before)

Did you offset the front wheel or is it just a bit off center under the fork? And would that matter if it was?

^Maybe the front wheel has to be dished to accommodate a disc brake? I don't know anything about them, just wondering.

Looks great and totally bomb proof. I would add fenders on there and then you'd be set.

Yes, the rack is pretty wicked. It's so solid I almost think they should call it a roll bar.
I contemplated the SRAM I-motion 9 too, but basically went with the Alfine on a gut feel and a number of reviews I read. I heard the Shimano's handle the cold better, but I'll have to wait and see.
The dish on the front wheel is pretty funky, it's still slightly off-center (a little to the right), but if i moved it over any further, I think I'd actually have the spokes on both side of the hub angled the same direction (does that makes sense?).
I should take a photo next to a 26 mountain bike for scale, this bike is BIG, and the tires really are quite huge. I need those fenders though, it rained on my commute home yesterday and those big tires basically suck up whole puddles and launch it at your *****.

Fenders should work with those tires, but what about the Endomorphs? Are there any fenders big enough to cover them?

Excessive would be having 7 of the exact same bike, one for each day of the week. Having 7 bikes, each different, would merely be an excellent start.

Every think you have there would be so wonderful. I was actually wondering about a Pugsley as a commuter the other day, because I was considering going with a 29er for a winter commuter. An Alfine on that is a amazing idea.
That Bike will last you 50+ year & nuclear war, isn't that where everyone looks for.
What front hub did you choose?
How much did you drop on that? if you don't mind me asking.
Could ask add how that rides? everything about it. Long distance or short? Speed?

Topeak DeFenders get close to the width of endos, but not full coverage front-to-back, obviously. But front/rear defenders plus a grunge board on the down tube do divert a lot of spatter.
