New bike!

I (finally) picked up my new bike - the replacement for my Kona JTS that was damaged in my accident on 6/23. It's a Fuji Cross Pro with an Ultegra/Dura-Ace drivetrain. It's a couple lbs lighter than my JTS, but that doesn't really matter much once all the other stuff is on there. I kept some of the old accessories, and added some replacements, but here it is in commuting livery:

I spent a few hours getting everything adjusted - the biggest issue was the fenders and tires - I've got them so they don't rub, but I may size down to 28mm at some point. I think I was swayed by the salesperson about the virtues of the Armadillo CX tires....They seem to do fine for now. I moved the Airzound tank to the seat post, and it seems to work fine there. The handlebars seem to allow for better equipment placement, so I was able to move the Topeak White Lights up to the handlebars from the fork. The round steel fork worked well for them on the JTS, the the carbon fork is too wide for that. They fit in nicely next to the Minewt X2's. It'll make it easier to turn them on/off when all I need is a flasher to be seen.

The rack is a bit closer to the fender than the old setup, so I took the tab off of the mount. Since the PB Superflash won't fit (too tall), I'm going to a PB rack light and moving the SF to my jersey. I put a Mars 2.0 light on the bag, so I'll have 4 LED flashers on the back, 2 white LED flashers on the front, the Minewt's for nighttime illumination, and a halogen headlamp... so I'll be able to see in any weather. Shifting is pretty smooth, and the braking is firm. I turned the X-levers down a bit so that I could aim the lights properly and fit the Airzound horn onto the bar.

So...tomorrow is the first ride to work - for this bike, and my first real commute since the accident.....wish me luck!

wow what a setup!

I think this might be too nice for commuting. I'm jealous.

Have a good ride :)

Nice ride. But so cluttered! I'm all about the stock bike + backpack.

Looks fast! Even with all the commuter stuff on there.
I hope you don't get pulled over. ;)

Nice bike. I'd love to see a shot of your cockpit if you have time. I can't imagine how you can fit it all on there!

Very, very nice. I've often thought of converting to a lighter weight aluminum frame and carbon forks for my commuter. As for now, I live with my steel Centurion. It's 20yo, and still going strong.

btw, nice Air Horn. :D

Sweet! Nice bike kokomo61. Enjoy, you deserve it!

I'm actually OK with the 'stuff'. I don't ride with a backpack because my back gets sore when carrying stuff (and I have a T12-L3 spinal fusion, too). In the heat, I need 2 water bottles, and in the traffic, I need the horn. Lighting is a necessity, too...so it's all in what works for you. I know guys who do longer commutes than me on single speeds, so while my hat's off to them, I ride with what I think I need (or might need).

So was I.....my Virginia license plate says KOKOMO - and I've had a couple offers to buy it.

Quick side story - most people think the Beach Boys song is about an island called Kokomo, and maybe it is, but the title was picked because John Phillips was looking for a word that fit in with the other lyrics. Kokomo happened to work best, so it became the title of the song. For anyone that's ever been there, it's about as far removed from a tropical paradise as you can get.

What's that on your left bar-end?

Is that an IV unit under your seat?

You'd think I'd need one, after that guy hit me back in June.... :D

It's the air bottle for my AirZound horn. I could never find a good place to mount it, because I don't want to use one of my water bottle mounts just for the horn. When it's hot, I'll go through 2 full bottles on my trip home. The seat post seems to work out pretty well, and gets rid of the tangles in the line.

One of my biking cohorts was giving me a hard time about the new bike.....see any resemblance?

I need to get me some tassles for the handlebars.

You Fuji is very nice but that other bike blows it out of the water.
