Funny commuting tips from music legend David Byrne!

Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne is a character. He reportedly crashed his bike on the way to an interview with Bicycling Magazine because he had a couple too many cocktails. Classic

It's a good thing that David took his guidance counselor's advice and didn't go into comedy.

On a side note... I wonder if he wears spandex two or three sizes too large.

David was interviewed on NPR's Fresh Air. He is proud of the fact that he has never owned a car.

Yeah. But how much did his record company spend on limos to drive him everywhere?

If I lived in NYC, I would hope for the same!

Guy's a genius. Did you check out his swell artsy bike racks on Youtube? So what if they're kinda inefficient. Wish I'd thought of it.

I liked his bike racks but this list is pretty weak.
I can't figure out of he is being serious or trying to be funny.
Either way seems like a fail to me.

Most of his list aren't even tips; they're just SHORT anecdotes of his experiences on two wheels in NYC. Big deal. Steve Friedman's BICYCLING article about "30 days on a bike in NYC" was 1000x better, even though Friedman was in love with the word "irreducible".... Wish I could remember what issue that was...I still have it, just can't locate it right now....

Byrne is quite the world rider. if you find some of his bicycling musings he is quite eloquent about riding cityscapes of the world.

He didn't get into comedy? Have you seen his movies? That one he played the laconic Texan was quite humorous. what was it??? the name escapes me..

+1 As good a songwriter/musical force as he is I've seen much funnier commuting tips and quips right here on these forums by regular, everyday folks. It's nice that someone w/t visibility he has can call attention to it(cycle-commuting) as a viable, alternative form of transportation. Just didn't find his observations all that funny or particularly insightful.

Saw his show Monday night in SF, Amazing. I was in the front row. Going again tonight with some local bicycling dignitaries, I wonder if we can get him out for a ride tomorrow, one can only wish

I thought about contacting him and seeing if he was up to this if and when he was in my area...

Hey David, I'd love to show you some cool routes here in SD, and I think I can organize something in LA with a friend, she works in TV... Come 'on! We were label mates once...

Saw the show again on Wednesday night. another great show, but no Extra Action Marching band to close it. Same set list, quite a few Talking Heads songs. Also, no bike ride. I did ride around town and the MUP to see if he was on his folding bike. Highly recomend his show if you get the chance.
