All weather puncture resistance
 

Can you name any good tires? My armadillos on the road bike are great, but I've heard bad things about them in wet weather (and haven't taken chances while riding them in the rain...).
I've also heard bad things about Gatorskins in the rain.

Are there any 26" street tires with great durability and all weather performance? I need them for my Trek 4300. Right now it's got the stock 26x1.9 knobbies, which are pretty grippy, but slow.

It's more about how you ride in the rain, less what you're riding on. just like in a car, handling is severely reduced in the rain. get a pair of armadillos or gatorskins, slow down a bit, brake earlier, and keep riding.

+1. Slow down in the turns and you can still go fast in a straight line. Watch out for paint/sewers.

Bontrager Race Lite Hard Case are durable and flat free for me. They have slick centers and grippy edges. I ride (conservatively) in the rain with them all the time--today comes to mind. It rains 6 months a year here, in the afternoons.

Schwalbe Marathon, or even better, the Marathon Plus. They have super thick puncture resistance. They roll great also.

What sort of bad things have you heard about Gatorskins in the wet? I have not quite 3,000 miles on mine and they run just fine in the wet. Love 'em in the dry too.

My other bike has Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase. They seem fine wet or dry too.

As others have mentioned, in the wet, I watch out for paint, the vinyl strips they use instead of paint, metal plates and stuff, and generally brake and corner more conservatively.

I've had absolutely no problems with my Armadillos in the rain nor do I really adjust my riding much in the wet except to be careful around manhole covers/metal plates and painted lines (but this isn't an issue unique to Armadillos).

I've run many types of tires but not Armadillos. However none of them have any issue at all in the rain other than steel manhole covers (slick as snot) some, but not all, painted lines and the occasional patch of oil at intersections if you're unwise and inattentive enough to ride where cars tend to puke oil while idling. I seriously doubt that the Armadillos will have issues other than these common ones. Generally you'll find you have about 80%to 90% of your dry traction when it's wet as long as you're on clean pavement.
