In my sig: Sterling the Flying Mule, named for the telepathic and vaguely mule-shaped alien being in Suzette Haden Elgin's Ozark Trilogy.
No pics yet, but currently the active bike since Sterling needs wheel work: Glory, a CCM-branded 21-speed BSO, whose colours (white with deep blue trim) reminded me of the My Little Pony of the same name. |
1986 red and rough looking Rockhopper commuter is "Mater."
My wife named it after the rusty tow truck in the cars movie. The tow truck and my bike share both appearance, and personality. I rode "mater" in to work today by happenstance. |
Surly Crosscheck: TDR, for, "the daily ride".
Centurian LeMans: The Game (don't ask me why) Cove Handjob: El Toro Negro (it's almost all black) Silly, huh? |
2 of my 3 bikes have names.
2007 Kona Jake is called.. well "Jake" Thrift store / project bike / SS conversion Schwinn Sprint is the "Le Schwartz". I had a LeTour that took that name but it got run over by a car before I was really done with it - so the Sprint was its replacement and just kept the name. |
My winter beater [no pics yet] is Niveus, or as I call it, Nivey. She's a freebie Specialized that was white [now wrapped in blue silicone self adhesive tape with some reflective tape in spots, too]. Oh, Niveus is Latin for "white, or snowy." Seemed fitting for a winter bike.

glad to see so many have named their cycles. all of my bikes have names; my commuter goes by 'cheo'.
|
I'm surprised no one (yet) said they named their Cannondal T2 "Terminator" or "Arnold" or their Kona Sutra, ahhh, well, I'll leave that to your imagination. ;)

I like it

It's not a bike name, but I really miss the ORIGINAL best name on BF...
Mr. Smashy Sigh...well, things change and nothing changes the fact he's an excellent dude and an asset here. |
Moon
I names my bike Moon cause she was built on the day of the new moon.
I went with it. |
I've only named one bike I've owned, and now she's in pieces in the garage.
I had an Del Sol cruisermabob, named her Lexi. We'll see if my current commuter gets a name or not. |
I have three bikes and they all have names, though not very creative names.
Marin Larkspur - Larky Dahon Boardwalk S1 - Octa (got her on 8.8.8) Moto Fantom Cross Uno - tU (the Uno) Never imagined I would name bikes...it just kinda happened. |

I've usually not named my bikes. Over time i've acquired more than one bike at a time,
so have often used the bike's color as an identifier. Referred to my StreetMachine, as orange due to it's color. And a CrossCheck as the black bike, as it is black. When I got a Trek 520, it looks black (but isn't exactly)- so I gave it a real name- Thor. Thor because I picked it from the shop on a Thursday. |
Ride4jc--good job. Good name either way!
ironic--I like that name, I never thought of something like that. the astronomy stuff. cool. I love some of these names! ahha It is silly to name something so inanimate - but it makes me care more for it. Makes it more personal. |
