Drove to work this morning

NEVER AGAIN! How the heck do people do that everyday? Sitting there in all that traffic burning all that gas to go nowhere. Sitting in an isolation cage.....yuck. Let my wife talk me into it since I had the Flu over the weekend and am still recovering. Bad move.

I feel fat. I'm gonna go get a Sausage McMuffin with egg and a Venti Quad Double-Whip Carmel Mocha Latte.

I think most people would be very open to using a bike to commute if it were not for 2 major fears. Number one, fear of safely navigating the same roads as automobiles, and number two, fear of showing up at work with body odor problems.

BroadSTPhilly 09-16-08 10:20 AM

That's why this forum is chock full of engineer analyst types. Who cares if we smell?

LOL, I tend to have known more Engineers / Science teachers that commute by bike. Although I commute by bike I teach Martial arts and as soon as I get in I am back on the floor working out again so its a great warm up for me. Also as for the Body Odor bring a stick of deodorant in your bag with you.

GV27 09-16-08 10:34 AM

Heck, just wearing wool or seersucker does wonders for BO.

+1.

Pretty lucky here. We have a men's room in the warehouse complete with locker area and showers. So i smell better than a fresh cut strawberry when i strut into the office. Love commuting!!

I'm suffering from abit of a cold but i'm going to great lengths to conceal it from my wife so she doesn't suggest i drive to work.

modernjess 09-16-08 10:52 AM

agreed, when I have to drive. I feel crappy all day.

I've been riding to work for so long, that if and when I do have to drive It just feel like it's gone, I just can't understand the car commute any longer. It just feels wrong to me on every level.

Yeah, number one is a pain.

bikinpolitico 09-16-08 11:48 AM

Live and learn. No more driving for you!

I love to bike it to work, but some of you...seriously. Something like driving should not cause such anger.

Agreed. An anti-car extremism is no more fun than an anti-bike extremism. All things in moderation, except love.

powerband 09-16-08 12:18 PM

I commute on a bicycle most days of the week, but sometimes I like throwing a leg over the motorcycle or slide into the comfort of the car. I don't mind periodically being stuck in a cage because it allows me to listen to some jazz and chill.

But, I love commuting on a bike for multiple reasons.

Well, here's my car:

But unfortunately this is what my drive to work looks like:

Capiche? That's why I ride a bike and take the train (why the heck I didn't just drive to the train station I have no idea!).

Easy! First, they sleep in. :D Best part of driving. Then, kick back and turn up the radio, and make the best of it.

That's the reason they give, but it's a lie.

You can enjoy driving with the right attitude. Just relax, don't be in a hurry, if in a car roll the windows down.

My general feeling is that when my body is sick I need to kick its ass to get it out of the doldrums. So I ride. There is nothing that clears the sinuses like riding to work when it is 20 degrees out.

jpdesjar 09-16-08 12:55 PM

yes having the right attitude is key when you have to drive, i also like listening to the college radio station in the morning when i drive...its always good listening

Big M 09-16-08 01:10 PM

BEAUTIFUL SPYDER!!! If I were you, I'd just find a longer, emptier route to work. :)

I can understand about the traffic. But I'm a sports radio junkie, so I love having time to catch up on scores and updates and stuff.

LOL - Exactly!

Just got back from a 4.5-mile lunchtime walk. Feeling a bit better now......ten pounds lighter too.

There ain't one. Not one that would take less than 2.5 hours. I'd somehow have to head out west, then skirt the entire Denver metro area to the south and get out to the southeast of the metro area before looping back to work. Now when I worked in Highlands Ranch I would often take a route that took twice as long but took me up fantastic roads in the mountains.

Bike to train is the the game of gain for me!
