54/Male/Upper Midwest. 15 miles RT; 80% rural roads. Started bike-muting early-July of this year. Averaging 2 commutes a week so far.

Great thread! Lots of inspiration here.

35 and a n00bie commuter in Redding, CA. Lots of hills. I literally go uphill both ways to work.

not sure if I will be able to year around this year. Mainly due to the financial impact of the bike, accessories, clothing, etc.

I've logged a little over 1500 miles in a few months... so I guess I got a good start.

I'll turn 50 in December. Many years ago I commuted 16 miles r/t over the summer when weather was good. Started again in June and so far have missed only a handful of days. My commute was too short (two miles each way), so I added a trip to the gym in the morning. So now I'm at 8 miles r/t and a 30-40 minute swim thrown in for good measure.

I plan to ride as many days as possible over the winter. Cold weather shouldn't bother me, but snow and ice seems a bit extreme to me.

25, male, all-weather commuter (and we don't have a car). Been doing transportation cycling since age 5 and traveling to school or work by bike most of the time since age 15.

Used to be an all-weather cyclist in Alaska and Quebec, now an all-weather cyclist in the much milder Pennsylvania climate.

Mixed ancestry? Me, too! German, Dutch, Irish, to name a few.

If we go back far enough, we're all from Africa.

29, Male, and year-round. Kansas isn't too bad in the winter. We usually have a little stint of near-zero (-20C) and a few rounds of snow up to eight inches deep (but usually less). A mountain bike can tackle winter here without a lot of problems.

25 male who started commuting this past March. I usually ride 3-4 times a week to work depending on my schedule and hope to keep it going through winter as long as there is no snow. My commute is only around 11 miles round trip.

36, male, and I ride my 10 mile RT commute every day, 5 days a week (also uphill both ways, although a lot more on the way home -- damned Seattle hills!). I actually sold the car many years ago (5? 7? something like that) to be a daily motorcycle rider, then parked the motorcycle for a bicycle about 2 years ago. Since then, I can count on available bodily digits the number of days I've commuted to work via some method other than bicycle. I've got studs for the snow, but when the weather's really nasty, I tend to just telecommute. Snow riding is a lot of work.

24 male. Technically I have been a year round commuter for the past 6 years of distances from a few hundred feet to 8 miles round trip. I don't really consider college to count so I am saying year round commuter for 2 years. Last year biked through snow, ice and sub zero temps decked out in full fred attire. Moved to Seattle and going on to year 3 of a shortish commute. This summer I shed my fred status and bought a road bike and some spandex.
