box for stuff to lock to bike (via chain lock)
 

has anyone ever tried to lock a box or briefcase to a bicycle? i will be commuting to work, and my stuff may be safer locked-up to my bike via my chain lock...rather than taking it inside and putting it on a shelf. the box could be anywhere from the size of a helmet, to just big enough to stash my lights and a packable jacket.

Somewhere on BF I saw a guy who who sawed off the top of a milkcrate and made it lockable with another milkcrate. It was pretty awesome, and it's definitely lockable. I might try it:)

The milkcrate idea is a good one, because the would be thief can see what's inside. If you locked a box to a bike that you couldn't see into, people would steal it just to find out what was inside.
