new bikes

Locally I can find these 3 for similar prices... the giant is about 290, the trek is about 330, and the mongoose is 270... is there a certain one that is better than another?... this will be my final decision... I been looking at many on craigslist but wasnt satisfied with any so I think imma buy a low end new one... they seem so similar that I don't know how to choose... thank you everyone for your help...

The Mongoose has the most normal-looking handlebars. I'd pick that of the three.

Most important thing is to take each one out for a test ride and see which you prefer. Although I don't like the seat post on either the Giant or the trek as well as the adjustable handlebars. But I do like the Trek paint/graphics more then the other 2

I'm not you, I personally would pick the Mongoose out that line-up.

I wanna take them all on test rides but they r far from each other so I don't want to have to drive far and not like what I see... most people are liking the mongoose... I didn't expect that... I guess because I hear about trek and giant much more... btw... ill be using these to commute if that changes anything

Definitely ride them all and see if one feels better than the others. The Giant has the best drive train components of the bunch, but I'm not a fan of front suspension, especially on low end bikes. I don't think you'd like the 34-tooth gear on the Trek.

I'd probably go with the Giant.

In that case, let me take back the Mongoose and pick the Trek instead. The Trek can take fenders. The Mongoose didn't look like it could. The Giant is still last because of that lame-o fork.

But so long as you buy from a shop that will service it after sale, then get whatever you want.

aiya... so hard choice now... everyone changed their answers... hahaha... well I'm not a real fan of the fork on the Giant either... the Trek does look very nice as does the Mongoose to me... but the price is a big difference for me as a student... i guess my question is... is it worth the difference in price when it comes down to specs?...

I went to performance one day and the Mechanic told me that bike isn't really a great bike... therefore I am considering not choosing one of their commuter package...

Fair enough. I have never actually thought about it but had seen it on their site. I like my raleigh M60. Although that saddle was complete crap and has since been replaced with the Original WTB saddle the bike came with.

that looks nice... I'm really hoping I can find something to bike to school with... I'm looking for a basic commuter but since I'm in college still, I don't have that much money to buy a really nice one... but yours look great and somewhat similar to what I am looking for...

The trek has twist grip shifters which many peoople dislike, but they are good for their ability to do multiple downshifts when you have to slow down suddenly in traffic. The Giant suspenxion adds un-needed weight.

Understood that your budget is tight. You're a student, so you should already have a backpack. Get the Mongoose, and a quality lock for it and a patch kit, you are set. The rest can come later as needs/finances allow.

so the mongoose is the cheapest but I also want something with quality... it is overall a good bike then right?... it would just be more maintenance to fix and I wanted to consider that factor... thanks everyone
