My wife asks me every day how the ride was, and everyday I tell her what went right and what went wrong. Yes, of course I would tell her. I've been down the "don't tell the wife everything" road and it did not end well.

No way should you tell your wife. It'll only upset her needlessly. Besides, I just asked my wife. She said she'd want me to tell her, and then she probed further as to why I would ask. Pretty soon, she told me I was grounded. I'm not the one who got hit -- you are. So, my wife would ground you just for asking. Get it?

+1 you didn't damage the guys car enough and if he decided to call the cops there is no way in hell are they going to prove that you scratched his car after you stopped as opposed to as you hit him. By not doing anything to the driver you are only promoting such behavior, I keep a key in my back pocket for such circumstances and put it level with my handle bars and let it rip, haven't had a chance to use this technique yet but I did have the pleasure of denting a guys hood and ripping his hood ornament off when he hit me at a stop sign...moron was not looking in front as he hit the gas.

I would have still been fuming about it when I got home, and vented my complaints about the idiot driver to my lovely wife as soon as I got in the door.

But she's supportive of my riding and never expresses any worries about my safety on the roads.

Those expressions usually come out at the funniest times, like when you are arguing about who's gonna clean up the remains of the gerbil the kid just ralphed up.

I would tell her but rank it with all of my other bike rage incidents. Someone did something stupid I survived but need to stand on my soapbox for a minute. Done.

On a related note my close calls have gone up 10x in the past month...

If I shared all of the "close calls" with the wifey, she would be even MORE upset with my cycling around the 2-20k pound heavy metal objects flying past me at light speed..........no thanks, don't want to feed THAT existing fear she already has..........

That's hilarious. I am not going to stop riding whatever my wife says and I don't want her to worry and I don't want to fight about it so therefore no telling. I am not hotheaded enough to go kicking people's cars either. I am just kind of jolly-insane. While I was riding home yesterday I was talking to myself in a Cristopher Walken voice .

This is the reason I voted "yes". You don't need her permission to ride your bike in the rain, and if this is a point to fight about, be blessed that you don't have bigger things to fight about.

I am not going to acquisce to that so it would just cause tension. So I decided to just tell you lot instead. What would you have done?
so if you got in a car wreck, would you tell her? why is this any different?

i thought communication was the foundation of any good relationship? tell her!!

I didn't stop at the store for anything on the way home last night...I didn't rush in and say 'Hey honey, I didn't stop at the store today!'. Communication doesn't have to involve almosts, which only count in horseshoes and hand grenades, or non-events, shouldas, wouldas or couldas.

but if something interesting/cool/different happened on the way to the store, you'd tell your friends. (e.g. this thread)

why not tell your better half too?

That's your choice, man...just don't try and make it a rule based on some sort of ethic, because the ethic that puts the skin on my ass as priority #1 tells me not to tell

If it was something interesting/cool/different that didn't involve potentially getting me killed or injured...yeah I'd tell her. You see, it's hard enough on loved ones to know that there are risks that you face daily, and even harder when you actually have something happen that gets you injured...bringing up those risks and highlighting how real they may be when something almost happens is just plain mean, don't you think?
