Stolen bike/broken heart
Hey. My bike got stolen last week (sob!). I was going to wait until the spring to get another one, but I can't seem to walk past a bike without my heart breaking a little. I saw a bike on craigslist that I am thinking of buying, but I am concerned that I am going too fast...that it's just a rebound bike. Thoughts?

Do it - you won't miss your old bike any less. You might as well be riding while you're crying.
(We got all 6 of our bikes stolen a couple months ago.) |
The spring? I wouldn't be able to wait that long. A cheap craigslist bike just to hold you over might be in order. You can sell it as soon as you replace it with something better and probably not lose much overall. Think of it as renting.

We're still talking about bikes, right? ;) |
Thanks, guys! It's a cheap Bianchi Milano...I'm going to take it for a spin this afternoon and see how we do. Come to think of it, I've been with my boyfriend for five years and he was a rebound.

way to go! I was forced to shop around when my beloved frankenstein of a schwinn world sport was stolen. But I saw it as a chance to find something I could really invest in (that being a good quality, yet unfortunately neglected piece of cro-mo that I could turn around and give the respect it deserved)

I've had a couple of bikes stolen over the years. Way to go with buying a decent one. I bought a used x-mart bike once to keep history from repeating itself, and it was not worth it at all, and I ended up buying another one later. I would get decent locks, if I were you. Maybe one of those keyed u-bolts, combined with a stiff cable?
Happy riding! |
You can usually get your money back out of a quality bike if you don't get to attached to it. I impulsively bought a fancy carbon road racing bike which was really stupid because such bikes have no practical use whatsoever. The thing is too fragile. I've had it for a year and have been parting it out on eBay and I'm actually making a profit.

life is too short for cheap bikes
Bikes aren't like deceased spouses, get a new ride right away |
Cheap bikes are just that: cheap. I will probably have to replace my rear wheel this week due to not keeping true and a recent broken spoke. Despite this fact, I really like mine ($200 new) and have it customized with rack, lights, etc. I'd really hate to have it stolen, so I use the keyed U-lock and stiff cable combination mentioned above. No problems since this move.

Bike thieves are dogs...check this craigslist ad out..."The Trek has a dent on the top tube, the serial numbers rusted for some reason" F**king d*uche. I hope someone punches him in the face.

I love my Milano commuter. It was $250 and I've put about 10,000 miles on it. Looks good too. I say get it and ride it.

I saw the listing, whats so bad about it? Are you ok? It is very clear and defined the serial number, sorry to go on a tangent... It is not as if anyone scrape it off, the seller is just been honest. If he wanted to he did not have to show any serial number or bring the subject at all. For me its a legit sale |

Oh, and very sorry to hear about your bike being stolen, I am sure it sucks.
