Met a fellow commuter!

This dude rides up beside me and asks about my Topeak rack bag. Then it transpires that we work next to each other, so ride along together for 10 minutes or so.

The funniest moment was when we got to a T intersection where I normally turn right, and he normally turns left. He's on my right, so we nearly have a massive collision. Turns out he knows about a shortcut, which he learnt from another bike commuter!

(I'm trying to imagine the car equivalent of this but my head asplode...)

Commute long enough and fun things happen...

Funny you mention this - I also ran into a fellow commuter on the way home yesterday...

Kind of embarrassing, though. I normally exit the compound into a residential area that is better for biking, even though it adds about a mile to my ride. Yesterday I ended up on a different exit, one that crosses a busy four-lane and enters a narrow 2-lane with high curbs and heavy traffic - uphill. There's a sidewalk, though, and being rush hour, I broke one of my cardinal rules and took the sidewalk.

As I'm about to enter the street (the sidewalk ends at the bottom of the other side of the hill) a guy on a bike goes whizzing past on the street with the traffic. Good for him, I'm thinking. I catch up to him and we had a nice chat - though he called me out on the sidewalk stunt. I agreed - I totally wussed out. It's good to get a dose of humility once in awhile!

Next time I take that route, I'm stayin' on the street!

Uh. One of my fears is ruining my commute by having to share it with someone else.

At 5 am I have never seen another rider yet. People ask me what do I think about as I peddle in.
I tell them the truth......nuttin.

I had a conversation with a fellow commuter the other day. I passed him and said Hi. After a few hills (my route has a LOT of ups and downs for street under/over passes) I noticed he's still with me. I'm on my cross check and he's sitting upright on a mountain bike and doesn't look like he's even working. He eventually even passes me and right as my ego is being bruised I notice that he has an electric assist on his bike. I pulled up next to him and picked his brain about it for a while. Pretty neat device, but damn if I wasn't tired after that ride staying with him on all the ups and downs. Yet another cool device that can chip away at peoples excuses to avoid bike commuting.
