Dutch Invasion...

First I started seeing this thing going by my house:

And last night I spotted one of these outside my office:

What next? Legalized drugs? It's only a matter of time.

We can only hope. Cessation of the gigantic money pit we call "the war on drugs" could free up a lot of funding. Some of that money could actually be used for cycling infrastructure...

I like the one in the picture better than the one I saw near my office. That one was black. The yellow one in the picture along with the colorful clothing make it look much more fun.

In fact aside from the Pedal Pub, the Dutch and Dutch look-alike bikes I've seen around here have all had really dour colors. Black, gray, really drab green, etc. I suppose the non-Dutch "urban" bikes aren't a lot better. Too much charcoal and silver. I like actual colors.

as my family used to say "If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much!"

i'm not sure that's always true though.

I have also been seeing more people on dutch style bikes. One guy i have seen a few times is older, always wearing a suit, and has a big black dutch bike. I really feel like he was transported here straight from holland. In addition to the bikes themselves, i have been seeing more laid back handlebars lately like the albatross, north road, or mustache bars, which definitely give the bikes more of a dutch feel.

the peoople on the bike pub should be pulled over and given a breathalizer. thats a DUI on public roads, even though they are not driving i'm pretty sure it still counts. you can't have drunk people on a bike falling off the bike seat in the middle of a busy street.

Great bars. Put them on an old MTB, especially if you`we got one that is slightly too big (long) for you, or one that always felt too low in the front. Suddenly you are riding almost cruiser style! Put them on a hybrid and you are close to "dutch". Cheap way to get a really comfy ride!:D

Let me guess: you were a hall monitor in grade school.

you'd have to be acting like a real a-hole if u actually got a dui on bike, in which case u would deserve it. these people look like they're having fun and not a danger to anyone, and are 99% likely not to get a ticket.

H---, I'd only be good for one or two drinks on that thing. Have you ever tried to pedal home from the bar? :p Blood doesn't carry oxygen so well after a few beers. I think the thing is self-regulating.

And I want one in my town! :D

It was only starting this year that you could legally drink on the thing. The driver doesn't drink and most of the people probably don't either while actually on it. It has a top speed of maybe 5 mph.

It's used for pub/bar/restaurant tours. I guess there was only one company in the U.S. willing to provide insurance. Anyway, one of the routes runs by my house. For what it's worth the people seem to really enjoy themselves while still managing to keep it going straight. ;)
