a truly awful way to die, but I supppose, strictly speaking, ti could happen to any one of us.

My best friend's dad crushed some ribs and punctured his lung ten years ago when he ran into a barrier device on his bike. His sternum hit the stem, if I recall correctly.

Happened to a guy I knew in New Orleans after Katrina few of us were riding and he was impaled by mtb bars just below his sternum, died in a matter of minutes. Freaked me and my friends out big time, few of us left NOLA not long after that.

I've always been a user of solid plugs or some form of bar end when I use 'straight' bars. but i prefer drops.
