I finally got my Cross Check!

Three months after ordering it, my fixed gear Cross Check has been delivered. :D Here it is, decked out for my 50km round trip commute:

Both the wheels are loaners from the bike shop. The rims I want, white Velocity Fusions, are on back order, so I won't get them till the end of November. I've also ordered a rear brake, and the Axiom Tracker LX rack.

Specs:

56cm Surly Cross Check
Syntace Stratos bullhorns
Shimano 105 Crankset/BB
Shimano BR-R550 cantilever brake (soon to be two)
Brooks Team Professional saddle, honey (but brown due to use)
Planet Bike Cascadia Touring fenders
Planet Bike Superflash blinkie
Vittoria Rubino Pro 23mm tires
Surly hubs, DT Competition spokes, White Velocity Fusion rims (different rims in photo; front will be radial in final build)

Everything else is generic.

Here's a photo of my bar mounted flashlight, a MTE 8 mode P7, mounted with a Twofish Lockblock.

Here are a couple of photos of my fender mounting technique. Note the spacers at the chainstay bridge, and the brass extender bracket (door hardware from Home Depot) at the fork. Also note the copious use of rubber washers.

Sweet! I love the look of the white tires with the black frame.

Beautiful job! Cross Check is one of the top 3 commuters (reasonably priced value) IMO. You did a nice job personalizing it!

Any changes to the bike after 7 months?
Lets see it with the white velocity wheels.

Yes, it has changed quite a bit since last year. I can take some photos tomorrow after work.

* Got the white rims.
* New -17 degree stem from Velo Orange.
* Sigma 1606L DTS wireless + cadence computer
* Time ATAC ROC Carbon pedals
* Jandd Expedition rear rack
* Old Man Mountain AC Lowrider front rack
* Wrapped (with cotton twine) and shellaced the right seatstay to prevent scratches and rust from locking.
* Sewed a white top tube pad from canvas for the same purpose as above.
* Replaced the bottle cage with a silver one.

Still fixed for now, but not for long. This bike is getting turned into a touring bike. I already have the parts:

* Nitto Noodle Bar
* 9 speed Dura Ace barend shifters
* Tektro R200A brake levers (Campagnolo ripoffs with quick releases)
* Tiagra front derailleur
* XT Shadow rear derailleur
* TA chainrings: 48-38-24
* 11-34 cassette (cheapest Shimano one)
* New rear wheel: Mavic CXP-33 rim (silver); DT Swiss Competition Spokes (silver); Shimano XT hub (silver). I'm still waiting for the hub to come in. Once it does, the bike is getting rebuilt.

I'll be using the existing front wheel for now, but the eventual goal is to replace it with another Mavic CXP-33 laced to a SON 20R dynohub, powering a Schmidt Edelux or similar led headlamp.

The fixed gear specific parts are getting swapped onto a late 80's Miele road bike I recently acquired, which will become my new fixed ride.
