Mr. Bike? Meet Mr. Stick

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — (AP) The lowly stick could be a magic wand, a knight’s sword or a fishing rod. Now the universal plaything has landed in the National Toy Hall of Fame, along with Baby Doll and the skateboard.

The three were chosen Thursday to join the lineup at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester. Previous inductees include the bicycle, Mr. Potato Head, Crayola crayons and the cardboard box.

I never had a stick growing up. Now they're putting one in the museum down the street...

You could put an eye out with that thing!

It doesn't seem like much of a toy, but maybe it probably beats the playstation in popularity worldwide.

There are lots of other things that are popular "toys": mud, water, mashed potatoes....

My son has always loved sticks. Even now (age 11) every time he walks in the woods he tries to find the coolest stick. He'd have a room full of them if we didn't keep him from bringing most of them home.

I still love sticks. When I'm hiking or camping and I see a good walking or drawing stick, I can't resist picking it up. My 16 month old boy loves sticks and mud as well.

my labrador retriever loves the stick and anything that rhymes with 'ick'.

It's big, it's heavy, it's wood.

No, no, no, no no. That was a BB gun!

Catgrrl70 11-07-08 04:25 PM

To be specific: a Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model BB rifle, with a compass in the stock.

Sticks are cool, my kids dig em, but a big empty box trumps all.
