Yesterday was the height of typhoon Pedring that hit us. At around 10:00AM the water level on the street was almost 3 inches. Luckily our street had the highest elevation around the area. Other places have 3 to 4 feet flood level. A high tide added to the flooding of the city. Me and my son Marc took turns in riding a bicycle for as loong as the water level doesn't reach the hubs.

Last month I got a bicycle from my brother. It's a retro bicycle with 24 x 1.75 front wheel and a 16 x 1.75 rear wheel. I can't resist the bicycle due to it's frame design so what I'm planning to do is change all the other components. My mechanic had to do some alignment on the frame and changes in the cables layout. I'll take some pictures by tomorrow since the work was not finished today.
Just after a week, came another bicycle of my choice. A Bridgestone Travzone was sold by my brother to a friend whom I negotiated to buy if he decides to sell it. Though I had one already I find it hard to get this model and so another restoration is schedule for this bicycle. It's a folding bicycle with 24 x 1 wheel set. Pictures by tomorrow. What I missed a few months ago was a Bridgestone of this model with 700c wheels. |
Here's my 2nd Bridgestone Travzone. For the moment I changed the handlebar and replaced all cables. I'm waiting for new tires ( 24 x 1) or changed the wheel set to a 22 x 1 3/8 if ever a find stainless steel rims. I find this bicycle easy to ride on short distances.
BTW this is a folding bicycle. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6052/...5d952658ba.jpg |

Here's the high wheeler bicycle (Silky II) frame under modification. I can't find the real model and manufacturer of this bicycle. Front wheel is 24 x 1.75 and rear is 16 x 1.75. Anyone familiar with this bicycle? Can't find stainless steel rims so I'm converting it to a 26 x 1 3/8 and 18 x 1.75.

Finally all alignment and adjustment on the Silky II 's frame was finished. Now it's time for painting.

Earlier this evening I got curious on how my Pico would look like if I change the small basket to a baby carrier.
The frame design provided for more leg room with the baby carrier installed and was happy about it. Now my brother's daughter will be comfortable when she rides it with her 2 year old son. I'll be taking shots this morning for posting. |
Here's my GRQ Pico after the handlebar with carrier change.

My GZ "Grass Chopper" in black tires.
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5140/...f1baed08c5.jpg My GZ "Grass Chopper" with new white sided tires. The tires became available specially in 18 x 1.75 size. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6038/...f483f3238f.jpg Wanda Attack Tire http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6055/...88318d5f67.jpg |
Wanda Attack tires are not that reliable. I bought them cause the white sided tires and size are the only available at this time. Anyway I don't use the bike for long distances. It's a tire good for few blocks away. The material is hard as if the rubber component is lesser than the branded Kenda or CST tires. For the looks it's okey.

New parts for my Silky II. Frame painting to start tomorrow.

A friend gave me a plastic coated basket which was totally a junk piece. In my mind I know that this basket would fit one of my bicycles so I scraped the plastic off and had my bicycle mechanic do the alignment and welding process. This is the image after I took off the plastic coating. I have to look for the mounting brackets before sending it for powder coating.

A car/motorcycle/bicycle show is scheduled this coming Sunday at SM San Lazaro, Manila.
The bicycle category seems to be limited and the registration fee is a bit expensive for a one day show. |
Inspite of being out of category it seems the organizers would welcome such entries and provide special categories. In this case, I might register my Grass Chopper (Size 18) and Scorcher ( Size 26/18 ) photos of which are in the previous posting with some changes on accessories and parts.

Yesterday was a lucky day. I brought home 3 awards for the 2 entries I made at the bicycle show. My compliments to my bicycle mechanic Olan Valeriano who turned my ideas to reality.

I had this bicycle since 2006. My 1st Mamachari, a Maruishi Frackers. Just brought it out from storage and had the stand, seat, rear carrier, wheel set and baby carrier changed. Didn't install a 3-speed IGH and Dynamo Hub to keep the bicycle light.

That's a nice sized baby carrier,
a rider can put their groceries in there :) Para sa mga siklistang walang mga anak, LOL. |
Have you seen one of this? This is a minivelo installed with a grinder for sharpening knives and bladed tools. The operator can access narrow alleys to give this special service. The grinder chain simply replaces the bicycle chain on the chain ring.

A bicycle show is scheduled this Dec. 27, 28, 29 at the Amphitheather in Malabon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
I'll be checking the categories later for posting. |

Just bought 2 sets of white sided Wanda tires size 18 x 1.75. Will be mounting 1 set to my Da Vinci folding bicycle by tomorrow. The other set goes to my trailer. Since that's the only availabe tire here I have no choice but to try it.

|
Just bought a size 20" minivelo. It's equipped with a dynamo hub, Nexus 3-Speed IGH, and front alloy brake. Will dismantle the bicycle to get the hubs and alloy brake and rebuilt it with standard hubs and brake. Both hubs have 28 holes to fit my other bicycle.
|
Just upgraded my National Renacle (Electric Three Wheeler). New white sided Wanda tires for the rear wheels , a new stainless basket in the front and a newly painted rear basket.

Coming up ..... my Miyata RB getting a new hybrid look. Images to be posted by tomorrow.

Those wheels remind me of the BMX bikes I used to
ride as a child. What material are the rims made of?
