Punched A Truck Today - with video

Here is the text description of the video:

I have not punched a car in years. I thought I was long past that stage of my life. Until today.

Buzzing along on my evening commute today, some cowboy in a monster runs a stop sign right in front of me like I am not even there.

I don't know if it was the act, the ridiculous vehicle, or the black-out tinted windows that got me, but I cursed and showed them "Who's #1" - you can see my finger bottom left corner. They slammed on the brakes in an attempt to make me hit them, so I did...with my fist. You can plainly hear it.

Truck Punch - Bicycle Road Rage

I thought I gave up that behavior when everyone started carrying guns. A little disappointed in myself. But at least it was "caught on tape" for all to enjoy.

How do you know the brakes were an attempt to hit you? It looked like good old stupid hesitation from here.

Because I stupidly flipped him off - that made him slam on the brakes. I could not see anything through the tint so I have no clue other than the timing of the brake lights with my action.

jyossarian 11-19-08 10:07 PM

So basically, that guy doesn't know how to drive sensibly and safely and he's demonstrating that in a big truck. At least he didn't shoot you for touching his truck.

10-4 to that. I did a tad more than touch it too.

ultramagnetic 11-19-08 10:35 PM

The fact that it was a lifted truck would be enough to piss me off.

Tinted driver and passenger side front windows are a horrible thing, whether cycling or driving. Should be a stiff automatic fine rather than a fix-it ticket for all the s.o.b.'s that have it installed.

cyclefreaksix 11-19-08 10:45 PM

Sounded like a solid whack!!

Big_e 11-19-08 10:55 PM

Good one! Hope he has a nice dent to remember to stop. Of course we can't see the expression on his face due to the dark ass tint on his windows. Do be careful, they aren't called idiots for no reason!

Why?

You, of all people, upset because somebody dared to run a stop sign in front of you?

:roflmao2:

weavers 11-19-08 11:50 PM

so you get mad at a truck that does a California stop and hesitates cause he is worried about your safety, when you have tons of film time of you blowing threw red lights and stop signs? you should just carry around a nightstick and smash every tail light of cars/trucks that obey the law.

personaly i'd be a little bit ticked, but i never car enough to flip someone off, hit their car or yell something at them. your just inviting trouble. what if he got of the car with a gun? i think about close calls or when i clip a car or one clips me afterwards and i get home. guess thats the differnce between you and me and neither of us is right.

btw i love your videos, now matter how outragious they can get.

Why?
To clarify, tint lower than a certain percentage that prevents me from easily seeing the driver is what I'm referring to. I use any and all cues from other drivers to determine their intentions when I'm on the road on a bike or driving a car. Being able to see the driver so I can tell if they have seen me or are at least looking in my direction at intersections is something I rely on. I would have used that information when approaching that intersection if I was in the saddle instead of Joey and wouldn't be surprised if he uses cues like that as well. I'm not sure what I'd consider an acceptable percentage as even light tints have a great effect at night.

Anything that makes cars or their drivers less visible is a terrible idea. Stupid things light brake light covers, especially tinted ones. Hell, even taillight clusters that don't have orange turn signals suck, imo.

Damn, that's a pretty loud punch. This is a pretty ironic video, if you ask me, =)

CB HI 11-20-08 01:41 AM

So JoeyBike meets JoeyPickup!:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

GutterNinja! 11-20-08 01:54 AM

JoeyPickup should be glad he didn't meet JoeyULock

CB HI 11-20-08 02:08 AM

JoeyULock would only add to the huge pile of JoeyBike's BAD KARMA!

Still pretty small compared to JoeyPickUp's BAD CARMA!

CB HI 11-20-08 02:19 AM

I take it that you have not watched JoeyBike's light and stop sign running videos.

That or your just one of the "hate all motorist" kind of guys.

I'll need to remind myself to check those out.

I hate anything and everything that goes VRRROOOOOMMM!! or pretends to.

(nah, you get all excited)

apricissimus 11-20-08 06:15 AM

I was expecting some kind of harrowing near collision or something. This is pretty normal motorist behavior though and it probably wouldn't have occurred to me to flip the guy off or punch his truck.

I have 30 videos up now. Find one instance where I ran a red light or stop sign an made a fast approaching motorist stop.

If I ran stop signs like that, I would be killed every day. Ever seen me run a red with traffic bearing down and STOP in the middle of the lane? Then when someone trying to screech to a stop blows a horn at me I stop again so they can hit me?

I could make a full length feature (maybe I will) of motorists doing exactly what that guy did - totally disregarding my existence at a stop sign - but they usually zoom on their way. I would wear out my U-Lock if I hit every one of them. Last time I remember punching one was 1988ish. A taxi right hook. Cars have run stop signs on me 10,000 time since then.

If someone in a car purposely jams on their brakes to get me to hit them on my bicycle, they will get punched apparently. Learned something new about myself that day.

I don't think that's why he "hesitated". Did you read what OP wrote? Did you watch the video?

littlefoot 11-20-08 07:43 AM

Decatur street, man I used to hate riding it, or anywhere in the Quarter for that matter. NOLA has to be one of the worst cities I ever lived in and rode a bike. Have a beer at Check Point Charlie's for me.. Best damn laundrymat/bar in the world.

Sometimes things just happen at the wrong time and we react out of character. Keep the stories and videos coming. They break up same O same O stuff that can infect this place.

What's your take on helmets? Yes, No?

You carry a firearm? :innocent:

I try to do my part here. Glad you like some of it.

Yes and No.

I wear one - YES. I care what others do - NO.

Pepper spray (mostly in case I get flatted in a rough area). Frame pump - worthless for pumping - could be used as a shelaili. (See Irish Dictionary if you don't know what a shelaili is).

I have a Ulock in my back pocket, but I never think of using that thing. As an age-old roadie, my hand goes for the frame pump in case of Cujo. Never been attacked by a person, but I have been worried enough to get my OC-10 spray in hand a few times.
