IMO, these are the worst. It's like they're playing chicken w/ their baby's life, daring you to hit them w/ your car, truck, bike, skateboard, whatever.

I know it seems that way, and I get annoyed as well--but I'd also submit that the destruction wreaked on a brain by months or years of severe, continuous sleep deprivation is hard to overstate.

I think the best thing is to respond as you would to mentally disabled people. Because they are.

2 - The Assumer This is the type of pedestrian that assumes that just because the cars have come to a stop it’s clear to cross the street, not considering that there might be a bike flying between the cars. Bam! Those are always major takeouts as they get hammered, ricocheting off of multiple cars, before they finally meet the pavement in an ugly way. Can you say pinball?
If the cars in front of you stop, there's usually a reason. Flying between stopped cars (especially if you can't see why they've stopped) is never a good idea.

They do a terrible job, while trying way too hard, not to say "black people" in number 5. In an effort to be PC, it comes out looking rather ugly.

In a way I agree with you ews, but around my parts most of the "bad ass" kids are white. Puffy jackets and sagging dickies have no color affiliation, but they do have a definite type.

I don't agree with either of you. Gangsta wannabes defy color and economic barriers and are just poseurs buying a ready made identity at the mall.

Yeah, I was with them on most of them, but not that one. Pedestrians have the right of way, especially if cars are stopped which means there's a red light. Blowing into pedestrians on your way to blowing a stop light has no excuse. If you want to filter through peds and blow the light, that's your choice, but the cyclist has to make any and all allowances in this situation. If they can't handle ANYTHING the ped does in this situation, then they should just stop.

I see people like this all the time, just keep walking goddamn it!

4 - The Back Stepper These are the pedestrians who react badly upon noticing at the last minute that they just stepped into your path. The problem is that you’ve noticed and planned avoidance by changing your path to veer behind them, but so much for the plans of mice and men as they get spooked seeing you, and with delayed reaction, back step right into your path that you intended to avoid them with. The Two-Step Slam Dance.

Heck, we make the same comments about "us". The ninja, the wrong-way dude, the weaver, the poseur, the sidewalk menace, the trail hogger...

I don't think they were talking about that kind of situation. I think it's more along the lines of gridlock and lane-splitting/passing on the right. I've had this happen to me a couple of times when I was riding between a lane of parked cars on my right and a lane of stopped cars on my left. I was in the lane with parked cars, there was plenty of space for me. Perfectly legal, not a light nor an intersection in sight. Ped just wants to jaywalk (which is fine by me and even by the law around here) without properly looking (which is not fine by me).

You did a great job of looking perfectly stupid in this post, though.

Signed,
