Google 'Bike There' Feature petition

I was just thinking about this the other day, how neat it would be if you could get directions from place to place which were more bike friendly (ie. no freeways). Not yet, but sign this petition because if anyone can do it, and do it well, it's google.

You could use the "walking" directions...

Some of us Don't ride in the sidewalk.

Really, a feature that would take adequate bike lanes and bike-able bridges and paths would be very nice.

I've found that sidewalks typically run parallel to roads

The "walk there" feature is useful for cycling, but it's only a piece of the puzzle. I signed a petition for this earlier in the year.

I like Google's older "avoid highway" options since the walking option will direct you to the wrong way on one way streets even if there are no sidewalks on the one way street. Not very good for cyclists or pedestrians.

I think the problem is that Google doesn't have data on bike lanes and bike paths.

... or shortcuts through parks, carparks, alleyways, etc; footbridges across railroads/highways/etc, and so on

I've found that sarcasm typically runs parallel to content, in the sense that they don't meet.

Parallel lines meet at infinity, no? :)

We have someone working on a similar design for our city

Yeah, and the street numbers get REALLY messed up.

Some more enlightened cities post information about road quality for cyclists. Which roads have nice bike lanes, which roads are best not biked, etc.

Also, elevation changes effect the cycliability of a route much more than the walkability or driveability.
