I keep reading things about the Brooks saddle. What makes it nicer than other saddles? The ones I've seen seem a little narrow for my requirements. I've got really wide butt, hip, and shoulder bones.

There are various different models of the brooks saddle, with different widths. The basic concept behind the brooks saddle is that it is made of hard leather, and after you have ridden a few hundred miles on it, the parts of the saddle that come in contact with the hard parts of your butt soften, and the other parts remain firm, so the saddle molds to the profile of your assets. Once broken in, I find the brooks B-17 saddle the most comfortable saddle in existence.

Have you searched the forums here for "Brooks saddle" and found the many threads waxing lyrically about its virtues?

+1 there are different models, different widths.

Saddle preference is a very personal thing. They're not a one size/brand fits all. I've tried many over the years, but for me the Brooks B-17 is very comfortable after a short break in period. Brooks also has other models with a little wider seat and springs.

I got my Brooks primarily because it has the reputation of lasting a long time. I was tired of getting a new saddle every few years. It has proven to be the most comfortable saddle I have ever used.

i own a dozen of them, including the first one i ever bought. in 1976...

I bought mine after reading the letter from the 93 year old guy who rode his saddle for 65 years for hundreds of thousands of miles, and was handing it down to his 60 year old son.

I think it's a wonderful saddle. They have models to fit many sizes.

I would sell my children before selling any of my broken-in Brooks saddles.
