A funny thing happened on my commute this AM
I live in a part of town where it is not uncommon to see hookers standing on the street corners during my morning commute. Not every morning, but often enough. At first, I didn't see anyone standign there on my commute this morning, but as I rounded the corner I saw a city-owned 4-door (complete with city crest on the door) idling at the curb, and (what appeared to be) a hooker getting out the passenger side.
I looked back and got the license number off the vehicle, but I'm trying ot decide what to do. Obviously 911 was out of the question, and I didn't stop to actually watch and see what was going on. I mean, there might be a perfectly reasonable explanation - like maybe they were carpooling?
Anyway, I'm still pretty shocked and PO'ed. I was going to write a letter of complaint to the city, but frankly, I doubt that much would come of it. Also, this incident and some of the other mildly corrupt activities I've seen from city workers over the years (smoking dope in parks department trucks, dump truck drivers on cellphones) makes me think that if I signed my name to a complaint, I'd probably never qualify for any kind of ubilding permit or get a pothole filled ever again.

Well personally I think prostitution should be legalized. So I'd chalk it up to someone just slacking off on the job. Ie, akin to napping.
Now if you caught some cop sleeping in his squad car at a speed trap (often see this) would you bother calling it in?
I wouldn't bother.

I can certainly understand your difficulty in deciding what to do. Not knowing why that woman was getting out of that car, or even whether she was a prostitute, certainly does make that difficult. Once you're certain about those two things, I expect the proper course of action will be obvious.

Must be a morning for witnessing criminal activity during our commutes. I was heading down 7th St NW during the wee morning hours and saw a group of young men in the process of stealing a car. Three were acting as the lookouts and another was jacking open the door. One of the kids had what appeared to be a black handgun in his hand too. And there was a police car just a block away, within plain sight! If a city worker renting a prostitute is the worst you see, consider yourself lucky.

Yawn. A guy was on his break and looking for some nooky. I can't see why you were po'd.
Actually it was probably some sort of outreach program and he was making sure she was OK. Being a streetwalker definitely qualifies as a "dirty job" (c'mon Mike Rove, I wanna see that episode!) and those girls need all the help they can get.
More importantly, how'd she look?

A long time ago in my college days I worked in a tool store that was on a major local boulevard that was frequented by ladies of the night... (or day, actually). It was somewhat amusing to watch them day after day walking the boulevard uh, "hawking their wares" so to speak. One girl had this routine with an ice cream cone...
Anyway... one day there is a sting set up and they are bringing the "girls" around back by the tool store and busting them there, using a car with a photo setup in the trunk to do quick mug shots... one of several plain cars would bring them in, they would be photo'd, and then a regular patrol car would pick up a few "girls" at a time and drive off... no doubt to "downtown."
The police also put "bait" on the street to catch the johns... was easy to see who was who though... the "working girls" wore high heels, the decoy cops wore running shoes. Otherwise you probably couldn't tell.
Interesting set up though... sure broke up the boredom of the day between customers.

The constitutional amendment that gave women the right to vote also made
prostitution illegal. I believe the womens rights groups had a good reason.
Our society has gotten so advanced that standards of moral turpitude
are so old fashioned.
In merry old England the bobbies would grab so many
that an acronym would be used for booking.
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

Do you get upset every time you see a city employee in a coffee shop, or doing an errand in a store? If you're that concerned about how they spend their every minute, what does it matter what they were doing as long as they weren't at their desk filling out forms or whatever they're supposed to do?
