Jamis Commuter stem suggestions
I got a Jamis Commuter 3.0 for my girlfriend for Christmas. I want to make it a bit more classic looking for her like this person did here:

I'm planning on getting some Nitto Promenade bars. My question is what kind of stem do I need to get? I know very little about bicycle stems. I want a silver stem similar to the one in the flickr picture. Here's more info that I do know:
The promenade bars require a 25.4mm clamp.
The current headset is sealed, threaded, 1"
The current stem is "Satori, forged alloy, angle-adjustable type, 90mm ext x 150mm quill" according to Jamis' specs. I think this is it here:

If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

You'll want this stem:
https://www.rivbike.com/products/list...product=16-047
With this shim (made by Nitto for this exact application so no worries):

The Nitto Periscopa may be a better choice for a girls bike, more upright and closer.

There's no point in the shim. Just buy the correct size stem to start with.
I'd say it depends on how much height you need. The Dirt Drop https://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...oducts_id=1488 will get you a higher bar than the Technomic. I'd go with the one that was most appropriate for my app.
I think there are times when a more polished stem looks better visually, but don't know anything about the brands that offer such a thing anymore.

Do I need a more upright stem? The promenade bars have 70mm of rise to them:
https://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...0¤cy=USD
The current bars are pretty flat:

Would the combination of the Periscopa and promenade bars be too much rise?

It's really hard to say. It's going to be all about what makes her comfortable on the bike. She may want to be more upright or more stretched out. Making use of the factory adjustable stem will give you an idea of how far up and forward she would want the bars.

Don't forget that stem has a LOOONNNGGG Quill on it - it'll get the bars up pretty high. I suggested that over the Dirt Drop as the picture posted showed a flat stem.
I think you're right on the other point, Jeff - I think there are other quill stem makers still but I don't know anything about them. Nittto seems to be the last company making a commonly available stem with the "classic" look to it. Cinelli and 3ttt sure don't. Real shame - I have a 3ttt on my old Gianni Motta which is nothing short of a work of art.

Lowering the stem and raising the angle will give you an idea of a shorter reach stem, and raising it and dropping the angle will give an idea of a longer reach stem...a low close angle will be hard to simulate, as will a high far one, but you should be able to get an idea of how far out she wants the bars and then once you find the stem with the proper reach, you can raise and lower that stem to get the right height.
